What goes wrong

An empty rack at six is the Forest Gate complaint you hear about

Almost nobody around E7 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.

How it works

Getting a Forest Gate club onto the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving E7 Since 2009
  1. The count

An hour on the Forest Gate floor at the time it actually matters. The number that matters is the five-to-seven number, not the daily one.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

Forest Gate sits 13.3 miles out on the E7 round, so the drop is timed against your busiest hours rather than the traffic.

    E7 · 7 days

  3. The switch

The changeover in Forest Gate overlaps by design — new stock lands while the old contract is still running.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

A named account manager who knows your site and the E7 round — January volume and seasonal changes go through one person, not a form.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Newham? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Nothing from Forest Gate leaves our own plants

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Forest Gate collections run 13.3 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

A Forest Gate switch nobody on the floor notices

Most Forest Gate clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

We count the Forest Gate floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Forest Gate evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

The area

Why Forest Gate is collected the way it is

A leafy, vibrant neighbourhood known for its Victorian architecture and vast open commons. Unique to Forest Gate.

What makes Forest Gate its own job is when the demand lands. Towel volume stacks into two hours, so the round is timed against that rather than against the distance.

Forest Gate questions, answered

Do you collect in Forest Gate?

Yes — Forest Gate sits on the E7 round, 7 days, 13.3 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Maryland, Upton Park and Manor Park — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • The driver knows the streets around Wanstead Park, Maryland and Manor Park — the same crew runs it weekly, so nobody is looking for your service entrance.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
  • 10 clubs and spas around E7 are already on this round — which is why the timings suit an evening peak rather than a hotel check-out.
What stops us running short in the evening?

We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. Every other hour looks fine on any count, which is why averages keep passing and racks keep emptying.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — and a single number that averages them fails on the busier one.
  • January is planned in — a Forest Gate club in January is not the same club in August, and the account should say so.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — and correcting it is our job, not a favour.
Do Forest Gate clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. The two sit on one invoice and one round.

  • Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
  • Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
  • Most clubs split it — hire what nobody looks at, keep your own name on what a member wears.
  • You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes. One collection, two specifications. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — and they are counted separately for the same reason.
  • One collection, one invoice — even where the two sides of the building want different specs.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Forest Gate in January and Forest Gate in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use, because oil only announces itself once the towel warms up.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — not as the tail end of a bed linen load.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — softener is the usual culprit: it smells pleasant and stops the towel drying anything.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — that is a wash problem, not a replacement problem.
  • Every load is temperature logged — which matters if you are ever asked to show how stock is handled.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Shrinkage is normal and predictable. We plan for it rather than dispute it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — rather than a running balance nobody can reconcile.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — you pay for the service, not for towels reaching the end of their life.
What would a Forest Gate club cost to supply?

Priced on your peak and your member numbers, not off a rate card. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.

  • We count a real week in Forest Gate before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
  • The count includes January — which is the one spike everybody knows is coming and most quotes ignore.
  • No minimum order — so a boutique studio is an ordinary account and is priced per item like any other.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.

Getting it right first time in Forest Gate

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • Forest Gate is a stop on a round that was already running, not a van dispatched for one club.
  • Keeping the fibre clear is what stops stock being replaced before its time.
  • Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
