What goes wrong

An empty rack at six is the Hammersmith complaint you hear about

Almost nobody around W6 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Towel demand stacks into roughly two hours rather than spreading across opening. A par count set on a daily average leaves the Hammersmith rack empty exactly when the floor is busiest.

  • Towels that come back smelling

A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use. Oil left in the fibre only announces itself once the towel warms up, which is after it has reached a member.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.

How it works

Four steps to a Hammersmith club on the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving W6 Since 2009
  1. The count

An hour on the Hammersmith floor at the time it actually matters. The number that matters is the five-to-seven number, not the daily one.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

W6 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.

    W6 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers, and no evening is covered by rationing towels.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

One name, who has seen your floor at peak. Changes get made on a call rather than logged as a ticket.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Hammersmith and Fulham? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Your Hammersmith stock, washed by us and nobody else

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Hammersmith collections run 5.5 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

What comes off a Hammersmith gym floor is not what comes off a hotel bed. Body oil needs its own temperature and no softener, so towelling is classified separately rather than run at the tail of a linen load.

A Hammersmith switch nobody on the floor notices

Most Hammersmith clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

You are never between suppliers. New stock is on the shelf before the last collection of the old contract.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

The area

Why Hammersmith is collected the way it is

A major riverside crossroads and cultural hub, famous for its theaters and rowing heritage. Unique to Hammersmith.

Clubs here sit on the W6 round, and the hour that matters is the evening peak rather than the morning — Hammersmith is close enough that a disrupted run is a second trip that day.

Hammersmith questions, answered

Do you collect in Hammersmith?

Yes — Hammersmith sits on the W6 round, 7 days, 5.5 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Brook Green, Barons Court and Hammersmith Fulham — one van, one run, which is what keeps a single studio sensible to price.
  • The driver knows the streets around Barons Court, Ravenscourt Park and West Kensington — which matters when the drop has to land before the evening rush.
  • A missed morning window here is recoverable the same day, because of that distance.
  • 30 clubs and spas around W6 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for towel volume rather than adapted to it.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Towels walk. The question is whether the account expects it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — rather than a running balance nobody can reconcile.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — it usually means a change on the floor rather than a laundry problem.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
What would a Hammersmith club cost to supply?

Priced on your peak and your member numbers, not off a rate card. The number follows turnover, not floor area.

  • We count a real week in Hammersmith before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
  • The count includes January — which is the one spike everybody knows is coming and most quotes ignore.
  • No minimum order — size barely moves the per-item price.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — there is no cost to finding out what it would look like.
What stops us running short in the evening?

We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. A Hammersmith floor gets through more between five and seven than across the rest of the day combined.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — an hour on the Hammersmith floor at peak tells us more than a year of delivery notes.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — the par level has to survive both, so it is set against the worse of the two.
  • January is planned in — new-year membership is the most predictable spike in the trade and should never be handled as an emergency.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — a second shortage is a counting error, not bad luck.
Do Hammersmith clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. The two sit on one invoice and one round.

  • Hire — the rack is maintained for you, including the towels that fail first.
  • Wash-only — your own branded stock comes back to you, the same items, not pooled.
  • Most clubs split it — hired gym towels where nobody reads a label, own-branded robes in the spa where the branding is the point.
  • You can move a line between the two later — clubs often start on hire and move the spa side across once branding is settled.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes. One collection, two specifications. Volume on one side of the building, finish on the other.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — a robe that feels like a gym towel has been washed like one.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — and they are counted separately for the same reason.
  • One collection, one invoice — even where the two sides of the building want different specs.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — with one account manager across both.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Hammersmith in January and Hammersmith in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — so there is never a Hammersmith evening with an empty rack.
  • If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Hammersmith towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — that is a wash problem, not a replacement problem.
  • Every load is temperature logged — which matters if you are ever asked to show how stock is handled.

The cheapest wash for Hammersmith is the second one you avoid

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • One vehicle covers W6, so adding Hammersmith adds a stop rather than a journey.
  • Towelling washed without softener keeps absorbing, so it is replaced on wear rather than on feel.
  • Stock is graded and rotated instead of written off at the first mark.
  • Over four fifths of our central London vehicles are electric.
