What goes wrong

Towel demand in Highgate is not spread across the day

Almost nobody around N6 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Towel demand stacks into roughly two hours rather than spreading across opening. A par count set on a daily average leaves the Highgate rack empty exactly when the floor is busiest.

  • Towels that come back smelling

A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use. Oil left in the fibre only announces itself once the towel warms up, which is after it has reached a member.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Towels walk. Every Highgate club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.

How it works

Four steps to a Highgate club on the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving N6 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count at peak because that is the only hour the par level has to survive. Every other hour looks fine on any count.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

The van is already in N6. Joining that round is what keeps a single studio priced as a stop rather than a journey.

    N6 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers, and no evening is covered by rationing towels.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

One name, who has seen your floor at peak. Changes get made on a call rather than logged as a ticket.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Haringey? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Nothing from Highgate leaves our own plants

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Highgate collections run 5.9 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

Changing supplier is not the January risk Highgate clubs think

The reason Highgate operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

You are never between suppliers. New stock is on the shelf before the last collection of the old contract.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

About Highgate

Highgate — what the round has to work around

An elevated, historic village with a mysterious charm and prestigious leafy avenues. Unique to Highgate.

What makes Highgate its own job is when the demand lands. Towel volume stacks into two hours, so the round is timed against that rather than against the distance.

Asked most often about Highgate towel accounts

Do you collect in Highgate?

Yes — Highgate sits on the N6 round, 7 days, 5.9 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Archway, Tufnell Park and Gospel Oak — one van, one run, which is what keeps a single studio sensible to price.
  • The driver knows the streets around Archway and Highgate — the same crew runs it weekly, so nobody is looking for your service entrance.
  • A missed morning window here is recoverable the same day, which is what 5.9 miles buys you.
  • 11 clubs and spas around N6 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for towel volume rather than adapted to it.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use, because oil only announces itself once the towel warms up.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Highgate towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Shrinkage is normal and predictable. We plan for it rather than dispute it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — not a statement that only makes sense to us.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — a step change in shrinkage is information, not an invoice line.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
What would a Highgate club cost to supply?

It is quoted, not tariffed. Two clubs with the same membership can differ twofold in towel usage depending on the floor.

  • We count a real week in Highgate before quoting — including the evening peak, which is where every estimate falls over.
  • The count includes January — a Highgate club quoted off an August week runs short in the month that matters.
  • No minimum order — so a boutique studio is an ordinary account and is priced per item like any other.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — including while you are still under contract elsewhere.
What stops us running short in the evening?

By counting against your peak rather than your daily average. Every other hour looks fine on any count, which is why averages keep passing and racks keep emptying.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — an hour on the Highgate floor at peak tells us more than a year of delivery notes.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — the par level has to survive both, so it is set against the worse of the two.
  • January is planned in — the one spike everyone knows is coming is the one worth building into the count.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — we reset it against real usage rather than the opening estimate.
Do Highgate clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Highgate clubs run half and half.

  • Hire — stock, replacement and shrinkage planning are ours; you never reorder.
  • Wash-only — your own branded stock comes back to you, the same items, not pooled.
  • Most clubs split it — hired gym towels where nobody reads a label, own-branded robes in the spa where the branding is the point.
  • You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. The gym side is judged on whether the rack is full; the spa side on how the robe feels.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — than towelling, and mixing the two shortens the life of both.
  • One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — with one account manager across both.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — rather than holding you to a January volume through a quiet August.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — so there is never a Highgate evening with an empty rack.
  • If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.

Getting it right first time in Highgate

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • Highgate is a stop on a round that was already running, not a van dispatched for one club.
  • Most towels retired early are over-softened rather than worn out.
  • Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
