What goes wrong
Three things that cost Mile End clubs a supplier
Almost nobody around E3 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.
-
Running out at the evening peak
Towel demand stacks into roughly two hours rather than spreading across opening. A par count set on a daily average leaves the Mile End rack empty exactly when the floor is busiest.
-
Towels that come back smelling
A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use. Oil left in the fibre only announces itself once the towel warms up, which is after it has reached a member.
-
Stock that never quite balances
Towels walk. Every Mile End club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.
How it works
Four steps, and the Mile End rack stops being your problem
Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.
-
The count
We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Mile End are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.
An hour, at peak
-
The round
The van is already in E3. Joining that round is what keeps a single studio priced as a stop rather than a journey.
E3 · 7 days
-
The switch
The changeover in Mile End overlaps by design — new stock lands while the old contract is still running.
No gap in service
-
The account
The same person handles Mile End every week, which is why a change to your par count does not need explaining twice.
One name, not a queue
Running more than one club around Tower Hamlets? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.
How it is processed
Nothing from Mile End leaves our own plants
There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Mile End collections run 11.1 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.
Gym towelling is its own classification. Sweat and body oil need a different wash to bed linen or table linen — get it wrong and the towel smells clean until it warms up.

A Mile End switch nobody on the floor notices
The reason Mile End operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.
- Before you commit
We count your peak, not your average
We count the Mile End floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
- The handover
Stock lands before the old supplier stops
You are never between suppliers. New stock is on the shelf before the last collection of the old contract.
- After
Par counts adjust once we have seen a month
Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.
Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.
The week you switch is the week nobody notices.

Mile End questions, answered
Do you collect in Mile End?
Yes — Mile End sits on the E3 round, 7 days, 11.1 miles from our Wembley plant.
- Shared with Bow, Old Ford and Stepney — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
- The driver knows the streets around Mile End, Bow Road and Stepney Green — which matters when the drop has to land before the evening rush.
- A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because Mile End is only 11.1 miles out.
- 17 clubs and spas around E3 are already on this round — which is why the timings suit an evening peak rather than a hotel check-out.
Is there a minimum term?
No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.
- Terms flex with seasonal demand — you are not held to a peak figure through a quiet quarter.
- Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
- Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
- If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?
Because sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.
- Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Mile End towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
- Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
- Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
- Every load is temperature logged — and the log sits against your account, not a general plant figure.
Members take towels — how is that counted?
Towels walk. The question is whether the account expects it.
- Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
- You get the actual numbers each cycle — not a statement that only makes sense to us.
- A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
- On hire, fair wear is our cost — greying and thinning are ours to replace.
What would a Mile End club cost to supply?
It is quoted, not tariffed. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.
- We count a real week in Mile End before quoting — rather than pricing off your last invoice.
- The count includes January — a Mile End club quoted off an August week runs short in the month that matters.
- No minimum order — so a boutique studio is an ordinary account and is priced per item like any other.
- The count and the quote cost nothing — there is no cost to finding out what it would look like.
What stops us running short in the evening?
We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. Every other hour looks fine on any count, which is why averages keep passing and racks keep emptying.
- We count on site at the time it matters — an hour on the Mile End floor at peak tells us more than a year of delivery notes.
- A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
- January is planned in — the one spike everyone knows is coming is the one worth building into the count.
- If you run short twice, the count is wrong — and correcting it is our job, not a favour.
Do Mile End clubs have to buy their own towels?
Both, and mixed accounts are normal. One collection covers whichever way each line is set up.
- Hire — the rack is maintained for you, including the towels that fail first.
- Wash-only — the same towels that left Mile End, never swapped into general stock.
- Most clubs split it — hired gym towels where nobody reads a label, own-branded robes in the spa where the branding is the point.
- You can move a line between the two later — it is a change to the sheet, not a new agreement.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?
Yes. One collection, two specifications. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.
- Robes are laundered to keep their handle — softness is the point on a robe, and it is achieved by the wash rather than by softener.
- Bath mats run on a heavier classification — than towelling, and mixing the two shortens the life of both.
- One collection, one invoice — no second supplier for the spa side.
- Hotel spas are a normal account — with one account manager across both.
Something specific to your Mile End club?
Ask us directlyRewashing Mile End linen is the real environmental cost
Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.
- The E3 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Mile End.
- Towelling washed without softener keeps absorbing, so it is replaced on wear rather than on feel.
- Stock is graded and rotated instead of written off at the first mark.
