What goes wrong

Three things that cost Rainham clubs a supplier

Almost nobody around RM13 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Towels walk. Every Rainham club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.

How it works

Four steps to a Rainham club on the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving RM13 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Rainham are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

Rainham sits 20.7 miles out on the RM13 round, so the drop is timed against your busiest hours rather than the traffic.

    RM13 · 7 days

  3. The switch

The changeover in Rainham overlaps by design — new stock lands while the old contract is still running.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

A named account manager who knows your site and the RM13 round — January volume and seasonal changes go through one person, not a form.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Havering? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Your Rainham stock, washed by us and nobody else

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Rainham collections run 20.7 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

What comes off a Rainham gym floor is not what comes off a hotel bed. Body oil needs its own temperature and no softener, so towelling is classified separately rather than run at the tail of a linen load.

Changing supplier is not the January risk Rainham clubs think

The reason Rainham operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

We count the Rainham floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Rainham evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

Rainham towel service — the questions we get most

Can you reach Rainham 7 days?

Yes — Rainham sits on the RM13 round, 7 days, 20.7 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Wennington, Elm Park and Dagenham — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • The driver knows the streets around Rainham — route knowledge is most of what separates a kept window from a missed one.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because Rainham is only 20.7 miles out.
  • 3 clubs and spas around RM13 are already on this round — which is why the timings suit an evening peak rather than a hotel check-out.
What is the difference between hire and wash-only in RM13?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Rainham clubs run half and half.

  • Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
  • Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
  • Most clubs split it — hire what nobody looks at, keep your own name on what a member wears.
  • You can move a line between the two later — clubs often start on hire and move the spa side across once branding is settled.
Can wet-area mats go on the same collection?

Yes. One collection, two specifications. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — because wet-area linen takes a different kind of soil.
  • One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Are we tied into a long contract?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Rainham in January and Rainham in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Why do towels smell clean but go damp-smelling later?

It is oil left in the fibre, not the towel being old. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — not as the tail end of a bed linen load.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
How do you handle shrinkage?

Shrinkage is normal and predictable. We plan for it rather than dispute it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — rather than a running balance nobody can reconcile.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — a step change in shrinkage is information, not an invoice line.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — you pay for the service, not for towels reaching the end of their life.
Is there a price list for towel hire?

Priced on your peak and your member numbers, not off a rate card. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.

  • We count a real week in Rainham before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
  • The count includes January — peak months are the ones the par count has to survive.
  • No minimum order — a small Rainham studio pays the same per towel as a club ten times the size.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.
How is the par count set for a Rainham club?

We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. A Rainham floor gets through more between five and seven than across the rest of the day combined.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
  • January is planned in — the one spike everyone knows is coming is the one worth building into the count.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — and correcting it is our job, not a favour.
