What goes wrong
Towel demand in Shadwell is not spread across the day
Almost nobody around E1 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.
-
Running out at the evening peak
Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.
-
Towels that come back smelling
A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use. Oil left in the fibre only announces itself once the towel warms up, which is after it has reached a member.
-
Stock that never quite balances
Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.
How it works
Getting a Shadwell club onto the round
Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.
-
The count
An hour on the Shadwell floor at the time it actually matters. The number that matters is the five-to-seven number, not the daily one.
An hour, at peak
-
The round
E1 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.
E1 · 7 days
-
The switch
You are never between suppliers, and no evening is covered by rationing towels.
No gap in service
-
The account
One name, who has seen your floor at peak. Changes get made on a call rather than logged as a ticket.
One name, not a queue
Running more than one club around Tower Hamlets? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.
How it is processed
Shadwell towels are not subcontracted
There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Shadwell collections run 10.5 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.
Gym towelling is its own classification. Sweat and body oil need a different wash to bed linen or table linen — get it wrong and the towel smells clean until it warms up.

A Shadwell switch nobody on the floor notices
Most Shadwell clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.
- Before you commit
We count your peak, not your average
An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.
- The handover
Stock lands before the old supplier stops
You are never between suppliers. New stock is on the shelf before the last collection of the old contract.
- After
Par counts adjust once we have seen a month
First counts are an estimate. After four weeks we set them against what you actually used, including what walked out of the door.
Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.
The week you switch is the week nobody notices.

Grooming generates heavy, fur-filled towels and specialist bedding that a standard machine cannot handle. Everything is collected and returned allergen-free, fluffy and sterilised. Top marks for taking on the difficult jobs.

Running a high-end spa means going through hundreds of bathrobes and spa towels daily. Our rotation stays fully stocked with exceptionally soft, hygienically pristine textiles. Guest comfort has noticeably improved since we switched.

Our members expect fresh sweat towels immediately after back-to-back spinning classes. They handle our daily volume seamlessly, and I would single out the punctuality and the clean, long-lasting scent of the eco-friendly detergents.

For high-end short-stay apartments, guest reviews live and die by linen quality. We get hotel-grade crispness that consistently earns us five-star cleanliness ratings, and the communication lines are short when something needs resolving.

Asked most often about Shadwell towel accounts
Can you reach Shadwell 7 days?
Yes — Shadwell sits on the E1 round, 7 days, 10.5 miles from our Wembley plant.
- Shared with Whitechapel, Stepney and Wapping — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
- The driver knows the streets around Whitechapel, Rotherhithe and Wapping — route knowledge is most of what separates a kept window from a missed one.
- A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, which is what 10.5 miles buys you.
- 29 clubs and spas around E1 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for towel volume rather than adapted to it.
Why do towels smell clean but go damp-smelling later?
Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.
- Gym towelling runs on its own classification — the programme is chosen for body oil rather than inherited from whatever ran before.
- Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — softener is the usual culprit: it smells pleasant and stops the towel drying anything.
- Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — which means you are replacing stock that had life left in it.
- Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
How do you handle shrinkage?
Towels walk. The question is whether the account expects it.
- Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
- You get the actual numbers each cycle — not a statement that only makes sense to us.
- A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
- On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
Is there a price list for towel hire?
Priced on your peak and your member numbers, not off a rate card. Two clubs with the same membership can differ twofold in towel usage depending on the floor.
- We count a real week in Shadwell before quoting — including the evening peak, which is where every estimate falls over.
- The count includes January — a Shadwell club quoted off an August week runs short in the month that matters.
- No minimum order — size barely moves the per-item price.
- The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.
How is the par count set for a Shadwell club?
The par count is set on your busiest two hours, not on an average day. A Shadwell floor gets through more between five and seven than across the rest of the day combined.
- We count on site at the time it matters — not from a figure on your last invoice.
- A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
- January is planned in — new-year membership is the most predictable spike in the trade and should never be handled as an emergency.
- If you run short twice, the count is wrong — and correcting it is our job, not a favour.
What is the difference between hire and wash-only in E1?
Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Shadwell clubs run half and half.
- Hire — the rack is maintained for you, including the towels that fail first.
- Wash-only — the same towels that left Shadwell, never swapped into general stock.
- Most clubs split it — hire what nobody looks at, keep your own name on what a member wears.
- You can move a line between the two later — it is a change to the sheet, not a new agreement.
Can wet-area mats go on the same collection?
Yes — a gym floor and a spa want opposite things from a towel. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.
- Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
- Bath mats run on a heavier classification — because wet-area linen takes a different kind of soil.
- One collection, one invoice — no second supplier for the spa side.
- Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Are we tied into a long contract?
No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.
- Terms flex with seasonal demand — rather than holding you to a January volume through a quiet August.
- Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your peak while you are still under someone else.
- Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
- If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Something specific to your Shadwell club?

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.
- The E1 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Shadwell.
- Keeping the fibre clear is what stops stock being replaced before its time.
