What goes wrong
Towel demand in Tring is not spread across the day
Almost nobody around HP23 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.
-
Running out at the evening peak
Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.
-
Towels that come back smelling
Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
-
Stock that never quite balances
Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.
How it works
Four steps to a Tring club on the round
Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.
-
The count
We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Tring are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.
An hour, at peak

The round
Tring sits 22.7 miles out on the HP23 round, so the drop is timed against your busiest hours rather than the traffic.

The switch
You are never between suppliers, and no evening is covered by rationing towels.
No gap in service
-
The account
A named account manager who knows your site and the HP23 round — January volume and seasonal changes go through one person, not a form.
One name, not a queue
Running more than one club around Dacorum? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.
How it is processed
Nothing from Tring leaves our own plants
There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Tring collections run 22.7 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.
Gym towelling is its own classification. Sweat and body oil need a different wash to bed linen or table linen — get it wrong and the towel smells clean until it warms up.

A Tring switch nobody on the floor notices
The reason Tring operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.
- Before you commit
We count your peak, not your average
An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.
- The handover
Stock lands before the old supplier stops
The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Tring evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.
- After
Par counts adjust once we have seen a month
First counts are an estimate. After four weeks we set them against what you actually used, including what walked out of the door.
Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.
The week you switch is the week nobody notices.

About Tring
Tring — what the round has to work around
A charming market town at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, known for its natural beauty. Unique to Tring.
Clubs here sit on the HP23 round, and the hour that matters is the evening peak rather than the morning — Tring is close enough that a disrupted run is a second trip that day.

Gym & spa towels in Tring — what operators ask
Can you reach Tring 7 days?
Yes — Tring sits on the HP23 round, 7 days, 22.7 miles from our Wembley plant.
- Shared with Aston Clinton, Pitstone and Wendover — adding you changes the schedule, not the route.
- A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
- 6 clubs and spas around HP23 are already on this round — which is why the timings suit an evening peak rather than a hotel check-out.
How is the par count set for a Tring club?
The par count is set on your busiest two hours, not on an average day. Every other hour looks fine on any count, which is why averages keep passing and racks keep emptying.
- We count on site at the time it matters — an hour on the Tring floor at peak tells us more than a year of delivery notes.
- A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — and a single number that averages them fails on the busier one.
- January is planned in — the one spike everyone knows is coming is the one worth building into the count.
- If you run short twice, the count is wrong — a second shortage is a counting error, not bad luck.
What is the difference between hire and wash-only in HP23?
Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Tring clubs run half and half.
- Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
- Wash-only — the same towels that left Tring, never swapped into general stock.
- Most clubs split it — the logo matters on a robe, rarely on a sweat towel.
- You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account.
Can wet-area mats go on the same collection?
Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. Volume on one side of the building, finish on the other.
- Robes are laundered to keep their handle — softness is the point on a robe, and it is achieved by the wash rather than by softener.
- Bath mats run on a heavier classification — because wet-area linen takes a different kind of soil.
- One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
- Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Are we tied into a long contract?
No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.
- Terms flex with seasonal demand — Tring in January and Tring in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
- Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — there is no cost to finding out.
- Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
- If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Why do towels smell clean but go damp-smelling later?
It is oil left in the fibre, not the towel being old. The towel smells fine cold and dry, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
- Gym towelling runs on its own classification — the programme is chosen for body oil rather than inherited from whatever ran before.
- Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — one general cycle addresses neither properly.
- Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — that is a wash problem, not a replacement problem.
- Every load is temperature logged — and the log sits against your account, not a general plant figure.
How do you handle shrinkage?
Shrinkage is normal and predictable. We plan for it rather than dispute it.
- Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
- You get the actual numbers each cycle — in and out, per collection, so the figure is checkable.
- A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — a step change in shrinkage is information, not an invoice line.
- On hire, fair wear is our cost — greying and thinning are ours to replace.
Is there a price list for towel hire?
It is quoted, not tariffed. The number follows turnover, not floor area.
- We count a real week in Tring before quoting — rather than pricing off your last invoice.
- The count includes January — peak months are the ones the par count has to survive.
- No minimum order — a small Tring studio pays the same per towel as a club ten times the size.
- The count and the quote cost nothing — there is no cost to finding out what it would look like.
Something specific to your Tring club?
Ask us directlyThe greenest wash is the one Tring does not repeat
Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.
- The HP23 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Tring.
- Towelling washed without softener keeps absorbing, so it is replaced on wear rather than on feel.
- Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
