What goes wrong
Three things that cost Blean clubs a supplier
Almost nobody around CT2 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.
-
Running out at the evening peak
Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.
-
Towels that come back smelling
Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
-
Stock that never quite balances
Towels walk. Every Blean club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.
How it works
Getting a Blean club onto the round
Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.
-
The count
An hour on the Blean floor at the time it actually matters. The number that matters is the five-to-seven number, not the daily one.
An hour, at peak
-
The round
CT2 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.
CT2 · 7 days
-
The switch
Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down, so there is never an evening with an empty rack.
No gap in service
-
The account
A named account manager who knows your site and the CT2 round — January volume and seasonal changes go through one person, not a form.
One name, not a queue
Running more than one club around Canterbury? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.
How it is processed
Blean towels are not subcontracted
There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Blean collections run 60.6 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.
Gym towelling is its own classification. Sweat and body oil need a different wash to bed linen or table linen — get it wrong and the towel smells clean until it warms up.

A Blean switch nobody on the floor notices
The reason Blean operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.
- Before you commit
We count your peak, not your average
An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.
- The handover
Stock lands before the old supplier stops
You are never between suppliers. New stock is on the shelf before the last collection of the old contract.
- After
Par counts adjust once we have seen a month
Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.
Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.
The week you switch is the week nobody notices.

The area
Why Blean is collected the way it is
A quiet residential village surrounded by ancient woodland on the edge of Canterbury. Unique to Blean.
Clubs here sit on the CT2 round, and the hour that matters is the evening peak rather than the morning — Blean is close enough that a disrupted run is a second trip that day.

Gym & spa towels in Blean — what operators ask
Can you reach Blean 7 days?
Yes — Blean sits on the CT2 round, 7 days, 60.6 miles from our Wembley plant.
- Shared with Canterbury, Sturry and Fordwich — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
- Collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens, because Blean is only 60.6 miles out.
- 1 clubs and spas around CT2 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for towel volume rather than adapted to it.
Are we tied into a long contract?
No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.
- Terms flex with seasonal demand — Blean in January and Blean in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
- Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — there is no cost to finding out.
- Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
- If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Why do towels smell clean but go damp-smelling later?
Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. The towel smells fine cold and dry, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
- Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Blean towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
- Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
- Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — that is a wash problem, not a replacement problem.
- Every load is temperature logged — which matters if you are ever asked to show how stock is handled.
How do you handle shrinkage?
Every Blean club loses towels, and an account that pretends otherwise turns into a monthly argument about counts.
- Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
- You get the actual numbers each cycle — in and out, per collection, so the figure is checkable.
- A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — it usually means a change on the floor rather than a laundry problem.
- On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
Is there a price list for towel hire?
Priced on your peak and your member numbers, not off a rate card. Two clubs with the same membership can differ twofold in towel usage depending on the floor.
- We count a real week in Blean before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
- The count includes January — peak months are the ones the par count has to survive.
- No minimum order — a small Blean studio pays the same per towel as a club ten times the size.
- The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.
How is the par count set for a Blean club?
By counting against your peak rather than your daily average. A Blean floor gets through more between five and seven than across the rest of the day combined.
- We count on site at the time it matters — not from a figure on your last invoice.
- A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — the par level has to survive both, so it is set against the worse of the two.
- January is planned in — a Blean club in January is not the same club in August, and the account should say so.
- If you run short twice, the count is wrong — a second shortage is a counting error, not bad luck.
What is the difference between hire and wash-only in CT2?
Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Blean clubs run half and half.
- Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
- Wash-only — the same towels that left Blean, never swapped into general stock.
- Most clubs split it — the logo matters on a robe, rarely on a sweat towel.
- You can move a line between the two later — it is a change to the sheet, not a new agreement.
Can wet-area mats go on the same collection?
Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.
- Robes are laundered to keep their handle — a robe that feels like a gym towel has been washed like one.
- Bath mats run on a heavier classification — because wet-area linen takes a different kind of soil.
- One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
- Hotel spas are a normal account — the bed linen side can go on the same round.
Something specific to your Blean club?
Ask us directlyGetting it right first time in Blean
Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.
- Blean is a stop on a round that was already running, not a van dispatched for one club.
- Towelling washed without softener keeps absorbing, so it is replaced on wear rather than on feel.
- Stock is graded and rotated instead of written off at the first mark.
