What goes wrong

The Borough morning goes wrong before the first coffee

Almost nobody around SE1 changes linen supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Deliveries that land after opening

A cafe opens earlier than almost anything else on the street. A drop timed for mid-morning is a drop that missed the shift it was for, and in Borough that means serving the first hours on yesterday's cloths.

  • Cloths that come back grey

Coffee oil, milk protein and syrup are not the same soil as food service. Washed on a general cycle they build up, whites go dull within weeks, and the counter is where it shows.

  • Running short on the busy day

Par counts set on a quiet Tuesday leave you short on Saturday. Most Borough cafes are not short of linen overall — they are short of it twice a week.

How it works

Four steps, and Borough stops managing linen

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the count and the timing right and the service stops being something you manage.

Serving SE1 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count what Borough actually uses across a full week — not an average week, because the average is exactly the number that leaves you short on a Saturday.

    Half an hour, on site

  2. The round

SE1 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before opening rather than during it.

    SE1 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers. The first delivery arrives before the last collection of the old agreement.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

The same person handles Borough every week, which is why a change to your par count does not need explaining twice.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one site around Southwark? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Your Borough cloths, washed by us and nobody else

There are two buildings between your linen and ours, and we own both. Borough collections run 9.2 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

What comes off a Borough counter is not what comes out of a kitchen. Coffee oil and milk protein need their own cycle, and they get one — aprons and cloths are not run through whatever the machine was doing before.

Switching supplier in Borough without missing an opening

Nobody in Borough changes linen supplier on a whim. The question is only whether the switch can happen without a single bad opening — and it can.

  1. Before you commit

We count a real week, not an average one

Half an hour on site: what goes out on a Saturday, what is still in the wash on Monday, and where you run short.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

Nothing is stood down until the replacement is physically on your shelf.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Any first count is a guess. The difference is whether anyone comes back and corrects it — after four weeks, we do.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

Local knowledge

Borough — what the round has to work around

The foodie heart of London, blending historic markets with iconic modern landmarks. Unique to The Borough.

Borough is collected 7 days on a shared round, so a single-site cafe here costs a stop rather than a journey.

Borough questions, answered

Can you reach Borough 7 days?

Yes — Borough sits on the SE1 round, 7 days, 9.2 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with London Bridge, Bankside and Southwark — one van, one run, which is what keeps a single-site account sensible to price.
  • The driver knows the streets around Mansion House, Bank and Monument — the same crew runs it weekly, so nobody is reading a map on your doorstep.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
We serve food as well as coffee — separate account?

No. Kitchen cloths and table linen go on the same SE1 collection and the same invoice.

  • No second supplier and no second delivery day — the round does not change when the kitchen opens.
  • Chef whites, oven cloths and table linen — all available on the same account, hire or wash-only.
  • 190 restaurants around SE1 are on this round too — the kitchen classification already runs on it weekly.
Can you deliver before we open in Borough?

Before you open, because that is how the SE1 round is ordered. Cafes open earlier than almost anything else we serve.

  • The time is agreed when the account opens — not left to whenever the van happens to reach Borough.
  • Timed around Mansion House because that is where the delay actually happens.
  • If a drop is missed, a missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week.
Our aprons look dull after a month — why?

Coffee oil, milk protein and syrup are not the same soil as food-service linen. On a general cycle they build up and whites dull within weeks.

  • Cafe cloths and aprons run on their own classification — rather than whatever the machine was doing before.
  • Milk protein needs the right temperature, not just a hotter one — overheating fixes the stain instead of lifting it.
  • Grey whites are usually a wash problem, not an age problem — a Borough cafe buying aprons three times a year is paying for a bad cycle, not for wear.
Can we leave if it is not working?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — you are not held to a peak figure through a quiet quarter.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your week while you are still under someone else.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
Do you take single-site cafes in SE1?

No minimum, on any line. A one-site independent is the normal shape of a cafe account.

  • Small sites go on the same SE1 round — which is why size barely moves the per-item price.
  • 127 cafes around SE1 are already on it — the vehicle is sized for this kind of work rather than adapted to it.
  • Volume changes are expected — the account flexes rather than holding you to a floor.
What is the difference between hire and wash-only in SE1?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. One collection covers whichever way each line is set up.

  • Hire — the count is maintained for you, including the items that wear out first.
  • Wash-only — your own branded aprons come back to you, the same items, not pooled.
  • Plenty of cafes do both — hire what nobody sees, keep your own name on what the customer does.
Can you cover a busy weekend in Borough?

Tell your account manager and a missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week.

  • If it happens twice, the par count is wrong — and resetting it is our job, not a favour.
  • Most Borough cafes are not short of linen overall — the shortage has a shape, and the shape is Saturday.
  • Seasonal swings are planned in — rather than handled as emergencies.

The greenest wash is the one Borough does not repeat

Most of the environmental cost of cafe linen is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • The SE1 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Borough.
  • Washing cafe soil on the right cycle is what stops stock being replaced every few months.
  • Hire stock is mended and rotated through its full life rather than discarded early.
