What goes wrong
Towel demand in Codicote is not spread across the day
Clubs in Codicote rarely leave a supplier over price. They leave after a run of evenings where the rack was empty at peak, or a batch came back smelling of damp.
-
Running out at the evening peak
Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.
-
Towels that come back smelling
Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
-
Stock that never quite balances
Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.
How it works
Four steps, and the Codicote rack stops being your problem
Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.
-
The count
We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Codicote are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.
An hour, at peak
-
The round
Codicote sits 20.2 miles out on the SG4 round, so the drop is timed against your busiest hours rather than the traffic.
SG4 · 7 days
-
The switch
Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down, so there is never an evening with an empty rack.
No gap in service
-
The account
The same person handles Codicote every week, which is why a change to your par count does not need explaining twice.
One name, not a queue
Running more than one club around North Hertfordshire? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.
How it is processed
Nothing from Codicote leaves our own plants
There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Codicote collections run 20.2 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.
What comes off a Codicote gym floor is not what comes off a hotel bed. Body oil needs its own temperature and no softener, so towelling is classified separately rather than run at the tail of a linen load.

Changing supplier is not the January risk Codicote clubs think
Most Codicote clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.
- Before you commit
We count your peak, not your average
We count the Codicote floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
- The handover
Stock lands before the old supplier stops
The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Codicote evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.
- After
Par counts adjust once we have seen a month
First counts are an estimate. After four weeks we set them against what you actually used, including what walked out of the door.
Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.
The week you switch is the week nobody notices.

The area
Why Codicote is collected the way it is
A thriving and upscale village with a historic high street, nestled in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. Unique to Codicote.
What makes Codicote its own job is when the demand lands. Towel volume stacks into two hours, so the round is timed against that rather than against the distance.

Codicote towel service — the questions we get most
Is Codicote on a towel round?
Yes — Codicote sits on the SG4 round, 7 days, 20.2 miles from our Wembley plant.
- Shared with Knebworth, Whitwell and Welwyn Village — adding you changes the schedule, not the route.
- A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
- Multi-site operators run on staggered days, so no club is left short while another is being collected from.
How is gym towel laundry priced?
It is quoted, not tariffed. Two clubs with the same membership can differ twofold in towel usage depending on the floor.
- We count a real week in Codicote before quoting — including the evening peak, which is where every estimate falls over.
- The count includes January — a Codicote club quoted off an August week runs short in the month that matters.
- No minimum order — so a boutique studio is an ordinary account and is priced per item like any other.
- The count and the quote cost nothing — including while you are still under contract elsewhere.
Our rack empties at six — can you fix that?
We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. Towel demand does not spread evenly across opening hours — it stacks, and an average hides exactly that.
- We count on site at the time it matters — not from a figure on your last invoice.
- A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
- January is planned in — a Codicote club in January is not the same club in August, and the account should say so.
- If you run short twice, the count is wrong — and correcting it is our job, not a favour.
Is towel hire available to Codicote clubs?
Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Codicote clubs run half and half.
- Hire — stock, replacement and shrinkage planning are ours; you never reorder.
- Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
- Most clubs split it — hired gym towels where nobody reads a label, own-branded robes in the spa where the branding is the point.
- You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account.
Is a Codicote spa a separate account?
Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. The gym side is judged on whether the rack is full; the spa side on how the robe feels.
- Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
- Bath mats run on a heavier classification — and they are counted separately for the same reason.
- One collection, one invoice — no second supplier for the spa side.
- Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Do you lock SG4 clubs into a term?
No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.
- Terms flex with seasonal demand — you are not held to a peak figure through a quiet quarter.
- Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your peak while you are still under someone else.
- Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — so there is never a Codicote evening with an empty rack.
- If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Is there a reason Codicote towels come back smelling?
It is oil left in the fibre, not the towel being old. The towel smells fine cold and dry, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.
- Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Codicote towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
- Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — and softener makes it worse by coating the fibre, which is why we do not use it on gym stock.
- Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
- Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
What happens about towels that go missing?
Towels walk. The question is whether the account expects it.
- Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
- You get the actual numbers each cycle — in and out, per collection, so the figure is checkable.
- A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
- On hire, fair wear is our cost — you pay for the service, not for towels reaching the end of their life.
Something specific to your Codicote club?
Ask us directlyThe greenest wash is the one Codicote does not repeat
Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.
- The SG4 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Codicote.
- Keeping the fibre clear is what stops stock being replaced before its time.
- Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
