What goes wrong

An empty rack at six is the Send complaint you hear about

Almost nobody around GU23 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Towels walk. Every Send club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.

How it works

Getting a Send club onto the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving GU23 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Send are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

GU23 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.

    GU23 · 7 days

  3. The switch

The changeover in Send overlaps by design — new stock lands while the old contract is still running.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

A named account manager who knows your site and the GU23 round — January volume and seasonal changes go through one person, not a form.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Guildford? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

No third party touches Send gym towelling

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Send collections run 21.9 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

Changing supplier is not the January risk Send clubs think

The reason Send operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

We count the Send floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Send evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

Liam Gallagher Operations & Pub Manager · Gastro pub with rooms

The area

Send, specifically

A delightful riverside village centered around the historic Wey Navigation and local common land. Unique to Send.

Clubs here sit on the GU23 round, and the hour that matters is the evening peak rather than the morning — Send is close enough that a disrupted run is a second trip that day.

Send questions, answered

Do you cover Send?

Yes — Send sits on the GU23 round, 7 days, 21.9 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Old Woking, Ripley and Mayford — adding you changes the schedule, not the route.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
  • Multi-site operators run on staggered days, so no club is left short while another is being collected from.
Who pays for towels that walk?

Every Send club loses towels, and an account that pretends otherwise turns into a monthly argument about counts.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — not a statement that only makes sense to us.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — it usually means a change on the floor rather than a laundry problem.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — greying and thinning are ours to replace.
Do you quote, or work off a tariff?

It is quoted, not tariffed. Two clubs with the same membership can differ twofold in towel usage depending on the floor.

  • We count a real week in Send before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
  • The count includes January — which is the one spike everybody knows is coming and most quotes ignore.
  • No minimum order — size barely moves the per-item price.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — including while you are still under contract elsewhere.
Do you count against our busiest hour?

We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. A Send floor gets through more between five and seven than across the rest of the day combined.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — not from a figure on your last invoice.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — the par level has to survive both, so it is set against the worse of the two.
  • January is planned in — a Send club in January is not the same club in August, and the account should say so.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — we reset it against real usage rather than the opening estimate.
Do you hire towels, or only launder ours in Send?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Send clubs run half and half.

  • Hire — stock, replacement and shrinkage planning are ours; you never reorder.
  • Wash-only — the same towels that left Send, never swapped into general stock.
  • Most clubs split it — hire what nobody looks at, keep your own name on what a member wears.
  • You can move a line between the two later — it is a change to the sheet, not a new agreement.
Are robes done differently from gym towels?

Yes. One collection, two specifications. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — a robe that feels like a gym towel has been washed like one.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — and they are counted separately for the same reason.
  • One collection, one invoice — no second supplier for the spa side.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Can we leave if it is not working?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. Nothing in the agreement is designed to make leaving awkward.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — rather than holding you to a January volume through a quiet August.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
  • If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
What stops gym towels smelling?

It is oil left in the fibre, not the towel being old. A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use, because oil only announces itself once the towel warms up.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — the programme is chosen for body oil rather than inherited from whatever ran before.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — one general cycle addresses neither properly.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.

Rewashing Send linen is the real environmental cost

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • One vehicle covers GU23, so adding Send adds a stop rather than a journey.
  • Most towels retired early are over-softened rather than worn out.
  • A greying towel moves to the back of the rotation rather than into a skip.
  • More than 80% of the fleet running into Guildford is fully electric.
