What goes wrong

An empty rack at six is the Shere complaint you hear about

Clubs in Shere rarely leave a supplier over price. They leave after a run of evenings where the rack was empty at peak, or a batch came back smelling of damp.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Towel demand stacks into roughly two hours rather than spreading across opening. A par count set on a daily average leaves the Shere rack empty exactly when the floor is busiest.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Towels walk. Every Shere club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.

How it works

Getting a Shere club onto the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving GU5 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count against your peak rather than your average — a Monday evening and a Sunday morning in Shere are different businesses, and the par level has to survive both.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

The van is already in GU5. Joining that round is what keeps a single studio priced as a stop rather than a journey.

    GU5 · 7 days

  3. The switch

Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down, so there is never an evening with an empty rack.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

The same person handles Shere every week, which is why a change to your par count does not need explaining twice.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Guildford? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Shere towels are not subcontracted

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Shere collections run 24.8 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

A Shere switch nobody on the floor notices

Most Shere clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Shere evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

First counts are an estimate. After four weeks we set them against what you actually used, including what walked out of the door.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

  • As a family-run Victorian B&B we need a partner who understands traditional hospitality. Our heritage cotton sheets are treated with real care, the drivers are friendly and the weekly delivery is consistent.
Arthur Pendelton Proprietor & Manager · Traditional bed & breakfast
  • Back-to-back conferences and galas mean huge quantities of table skirts, stage linens and catering napkins at short notice. They have never missed a deadline on any of it.
Danielle Moreau Events Logistics Manager · Corporate event venue
  • Grooming generates heavy, fur-filled towels and specialist bedding that a standard machine cannot handle. Everything is collected and returned allergen-free, fluffy and sterilised. Top marks for taking on the difficult jobs.
Natasha Petrov Head Groomer & Manager · Pet grooming & daycare
  • Whether we are catering a wedding or a corporate launch, linen presentation has to be immaculate. We get crisp, vacuum-sealed table linens and pristine chef jackets every time — a genuine operational ally.
Julian Bennett Executive Director of Operations · Catering & event production
  • Our membership expects discretion and immaculate standards. Dining room linens and guest suites are laundered to a bespoke standard, and the discretion around our account has been absolute.
Alistair Finch Club Secretary & General Manager · Private members' club

Siobhan O'Connor Spa Operations Director · Luxury health club & spa
  • Our members expect fresh sweat towels immediately after back-to-back spinning classes. They handle our daily volume seamlessly, and I would single out the punctuality and the clean, long-lasting scent of the eco-friendly detergents.
Marcus Thorne Studio Manager · Boutique fitness studio
  • We rely on clean bolster covers, fleece blankets and eye pillows. Delicate fabrics are treated with care while still getting a deep, hypoallergenic sanitisation, and everything comes back beautifully presented.

About Shere

Shere, specifically

A world-famous historic village, frequently used as a filming location for its quintessential English charm. Unique to Shere.

Shere is collected 7 days on a shared round, so a single studio here costs a stop rather than a journey.

Shere questions, answered

Do you collect in Shere?

Yes — Shere sits on the GU5 round, 7 days, 24.8 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Gomshall, Abinger Hammer and Albury — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
  • Multi-site operators run on staggered days, so no club is left short while another is being collected from.
What stops us running short in the evening?

The par count is set on your busiest two hours, not on an average day. Every other hour looks fine on any count, which is why averages keep passing and racks keep emptying.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — not from a figure on your last invoice.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
  • January is planned in — new-year membership is the most predictable spike in the trade and should never be handled as an emergency.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — we reset it against real usage rather than the opening estimate.
Do Shere clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. One collection covers whichever way each line is set up.

  • Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
  • Wash-only — the same towels that left Shere, never swapped into general stock.
  • Most clubs split it — hire what nobody looks at, keep your own name on what a member wears.
  • You can move a line between the two later — clubs often start on hire and move the spa side across once branding is settled.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — than towelling, and mixing the two shortens the life of both.
  • One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — with one account manager across both.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Shere in January and Shere in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your peak while you are still under someone else.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — so there is never a Shere evening with an empty rack.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

Because sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. A towel can pass inspection dry and fail it in use, because oil only announces itself once the towel warms up.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — not as the tail end of a bed linen load.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — one general cycle addresses neither properly.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — that is a wash problem, not a replacement problem.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Every Shere club loses towels, and an account that pretends otherwise turns into a monthly argument about counts.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — in and out, per collection, so the figure is checkable.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
What would a Shere club cost to supply?

There is no honest price list for towel work. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.

  • We count a real week in Shere before quoting — including the evening peak, which is where every estimate falls over.
  • The count includes January — which is the one spike everybody knows is coming and most quotes ignore.
  • No minimum order — size barely moves the per-item price.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — including while you are still under contract elsewhere.

Rewashing Shere linen is the real environmental cost

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • The GU5 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Shere.
  • Towelling washed without softener keeps absorbing, so it is replaced on wear rather than on feel.
  • Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
