What goes wrong

An empty rack at six is the Bankside complaint you hear about

Clubs in Bankside rarely leave a supplier over price. They leave after a run of evenings where the rack was empty at peak, or a batch came back smelling of damp.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Between five and seven the rack empties faster than the rest of the day combined. An average hides that completely, which is why average-based counts fail at peak.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Loss is normal and predictable. Pretending otherwise is what turns a towel account into a reconciliation exercise nobody wins.

How it works

Getting a Bankside club onto the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving SE1 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count at peak because that is the only hour the par level has to survive. Every other hour looks fine on any count.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

SE1 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.

    SE1 · 7 days

  3. The switch

Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down, so there is never an evening with an empty rack.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

The same person handles Bankside every week, which is why a change to your par count does not need explaining twice.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Southwark? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

No third party touches Bankside gym towelling

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Bankside collections run 8.9 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

A Bankside switch nobody on the floor notices

The reason Bankside operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble on towels. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

An hour on site at the time it actually matters. Towel demand stacks into two hours, and an average hides exactly that.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Bankside evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

Danielle Moreau Events Logistics Manager · Corporate event venue
  • Grooming generates heavy, fur-filled towels and specialist bedding that a standard machine cannot handle. Everything is collected and returned allergen-free, fluffy and sterilised. Top marks for taking on the difficult jobs.

The area

Why Bankside is collected the way it is

An energetic part of Bankside featuring a mix of historic architecture and modern living. Unique to Bankside.

What makes Bankside its own job is when the demand lands. Towel volume stacks into two hours, so the round is timed against that rather than against the distance.

Gym & spa towels in Bankside — what operators ask

Do you collect in Bankside?

Yes — Bankside sits on the SE1 round, 7 days, 8.9 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Queenhithe, Vintry and Castle Baynard — adding you changes the schedule, not the route.
  • The driver knows the streets around Mansion House, Bank and Barbican — the same crew runs it weekly, so nobody is looking for your service entrance.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because Bankside is only 8.9 miles out.
  • 21 clubs and spas around SE1 are already on this round — we are not learning the area on your account.
What stops us running short in the evening?

We count at peak, because that is the only hour the count has to survive. Towel demand does not spread evenly across opening hours — it stacks, and an average hides exactly that.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — which is why the count is taken twice rather than once.
  • January is planned in — the one spike everyone knows is coming is the one worth building into the count.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — we reset it against real usage rather than the opening estimate.
Do Bankside clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. One collection covers whichever way each line is set up.

  • Hire — stock, replacement and shrinkage planning are ours; you never reorder.
  • Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
  • Most clubs split it — the logo matters on a robe, rarely on a sweat towel.
  • You can move a line between the two later — it is a change to the sheet, not a new agreement.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes, and they are genuinely different jobs on the same account. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — because wet-area linen takes a different kind of soil.
  • One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — with one account manager across both.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. The account should hold because it works, not because leaving is expensive.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Bankside in January and Bankside in August are different clubs, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — the count and the quote commit you to nothing.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
  • If it is not working, say so — we would rather correct the account than lose it.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

It is oil left in the fibre, not the towel being old. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — Bankside towels are classified for the soil they actually carry.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — softener is the usual culprit: it smells pleasant and stops the towel drying anything.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — which means you are replacing stock that had life left in it.
  • Every load is temperature logged — and the log sits against your account, not a general plant figure.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Towels walk. The question is whether the account expects it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — so the rack does not empty because the maths assumed nothing walked.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — not a statement that only makes sense to us.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — and we would rather flag it than absorb it quietly.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
What would a Bankside club cost to supply?

There is no honest price list for towel work. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.

  • We count a real week in Bankside before quoting — rather than pricing off your last invoice.
  • The count includes January — a Bankside club quoted off an August week runs short in the month that matters.
  • No minimum order — a small Bankside studio pays the same per towel as a club ten times the size.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — including while you are still under contract elsewhere.

Rewashing Bankside linen is the real environmental cost

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • The SE1 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Bankside.
  • Most towels retired early are over-softened rather than worn out.
  • A greying towel moves to the back of the rotation rather than into a skip.
  • More than 80% of the fleet running into Southwark is fully electric.
