What goes wrong

The Capel shift starts badly before anyone touches a pan

Almost nobody around RH5 changes linen supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Whites that are not actually white

Grease and protein need their own wash. Run through a front-of-house cycle they build up, and a Capel brigade ends up in jackets that look tired in a month.

  • Sizes that turn into a scramble

A box of mixed whites at the start of a shift is a box someone has to sort. Named and sized garments on a rail take that job off the pass entirely.

  • Deliveries that land mid-prep

Prep is the worst possible window and it is the one most suppliers hit. The RH5 round is sequenced to miss it.

How it works

Four steps, and the Capel head chef stops managing linen

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the sizing and the timing right and the service stops being something the pass has to think about.

Serving RH5 Since 2009
  1. The count

We size the brigade and count a real week in Capel — how many jackets a section gets through in summer, not the number on last year's order.

    An hour, on site

  2. The round

RH5 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that sits outside prep and outside service.

    RH5 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers, and no service is covered in borrowed jackets.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

A named account manager who knows your kitchen and the RH5 round — sizing changes and new starters go through one person, not a form.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one kitchen around Mole Valley? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

No third party touches Capel chef whites

There are two buildings between your linen and ours, and we own both. Capel collections run 28.1 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Grease lifts at a different temperature from protein, and scorch responds to neither. Kitchen garments are classified for that rather than run on a general cycle.

Changing supplier is not the Friday risk Capel chefs think

The reason Capel head chefs put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to gamble. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

    We size the brigade properly

An hour on site: every section, every size, and the garments that wear out first. Sizing is where most kitchen accounts go wrong.

  2. The handover

Whites land before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Capel section starts a shift on borrowed jackets.

  3. After

New starters go on the account the same week

A new commis does not wait for the next order cycle. Sizing changes go through your account manager and land on the next round.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

About Capel

Capel, specifically

A quintessential rural Surrey village set within the Weald, characterized by historic timber-framed houses and pastoral scenery. Unique to Capel.

What makes Capel its own job is the service pattern rather than the distance. The round is planned to miss prep, which is when a delivery is least welcome.

Capel questions, answered

Is Capel on a kitchen round?

Yes — Capel sits on the RH5 round, 7 days, 28.1 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Holmwood, Charlwood and Abinger Common — the same vehicle covers them, so a brigade here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • The driver knows the service entrances around Ockley — the same crew runs it weekly, so nobody is looking for your back door.
  • Collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens, because Capel is only 28.1 miles out.
  • 4 kitchens around RH5 are already on this round — we are not learning the area on your account.
Can you deliver outside prep and service?

Outside both, because prep is the window most suppliers hit.

  • The time is agreed when the account opens — and a relief driver inherits it with the route.
  • Timed around Ockley because that is where the delay actually happens.
  • If a drop is missed, collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens.
  • A relief driver inherits the window with the route — so cover weeks do not become the weeks it goes wrong.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — rather than locking you into a summer volume you do not use in February.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will size your brigade while you are still under someone else.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Can we keep our own embroidered jackets in Capel?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Capel kitchens run half and half.

  • Hire — we own the garments, replace them on wear and manage sizing as the brigade changes.
  • Wash-only — the same whites that left Capel, tracked by name, never swapped into a pool.
  • Plenty of kitchens do both — hired cloths and aprons, own-branded jackets on wash-only.
  • You can move a line between the two later — kitchens often start on hire and move their jackets across once the branding is settled.
Why do our jackets go grey?

Always. Kitchen work never follows table linen through the machine.

  • Grease, protein and scorch need their own wash — grease lifts at a different temperature from protein, and scorch responds to neither.
  • Whites never run through the cycle the table linen was on — that transfer is what dulls a brigade's whites inside a month.
  • Colour-coded cloths stay in their own classification — from collection to the rail, so the coding still means something when it comes back.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.
What would a Capel brigade cost to kit out?

There is no honest price list for kitchen work. Kitchen work is priced on the brigade and the covers, so a published list would be a guess.

  • We count a real week in Capel before quoting — including the summer weeks, which is where most estimates fall over.
  • No minimum order — size barely moves the per-garment price.
  • The count includes your busy season — peak weeks are the ones the par count has to survive.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.
Are contract caterers on the round?

Yes, and they are not an afterthought on a restaurant round.

  • 1 school kitchens around RH5 are already on the round — we are not learning catering work on your account.
  • Term-time and seasonal swings are planned in — rather than handled as emergencies.
  • Colour-coded cloths and named whites — suit sites that need an audit trail.
  • Contract caterers running several sites — get one account manager and staggered collection days across the group.
A new commis starts Monday — how fast can you kit them out?

In person, section by section — not off a headcount.

  • Every section is sized at setup — including the sections that get through two a shift.
  • A new commis goes on the account the same week — rather than waiting for an order cycle.
  • Garments are named — so nobody is sorting a mixed box at the start of a shift.
  • Par counts are re-set after the first month — and again after your first busy season, which is where opening figures usually fail.

The cheapest wash for Capel is the second one you avoid

Most of the environmental cost of kitchen linen is rewashing and replacing it. Classifying kitchen soil properly the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • Capel is a stop on a round that was already running, not a van dispatched for one kitchen.
  • Getting grease and protein out first time is what stops jackets being binned early.
  • Hire garments are repaired and rotated rather than binned at the first scorch mark.
