What goes wrong

Three things that cost Fingest kitchens a supplier

Kitchens in Fingest rarely leave a supplier over price. They leave after a run of weeks where the whites came back grey, the sizes were wrong, or the van arrived mid-prep.

  • Whites that are not actually white

Grease and protein need their own wash. Run through a front-of-house cycle they build up, and a Fingest brigade ends up in jackets that look tired in a month.

  • Sizes that turn into a scramble

Nobody should be hunting for their size at the start of service. Sized and named means the rail is ready and nobody is rummaging.

  • Deliveries that land mid-prep

A drop timed for the middle of prep is a drop nobody in Fingest can receive. The round has to be planned around service, not around the traffic.

How it works

Four steps, and the Fingest head chef stops managing linen

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the sizing and the timing right and the service stops being something the pass has to think about.

Serving RG9 Since 2009
  1. The count

Every section sized in person. Sizing is where most kitchen accounts go wrong, and it is not something a form gets right.

    An hour, on site

  2. The round

Fingest sits 25.5 miles out on the RG9 round, so the drop time is set against your service pattern rather than the traffic.

    RG9 · 7 days

  3. The switch

The changeover in Fingest overlaps by design — the new rail is hung while the old contract is still running.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

One name, who has walked your kitchen. A new commis goes on the account with a call rather than an order cycle.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one kitchen around Buckinghamshire? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Fingest kitchen linen is not subcontracted

There are two buildings between your linen and ours, and we own both. Fingest collections run 25.5 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Kitchen soil is classified separately from front of house. Grease, protein and scorch need their own wash and their own temperature, so chef whites never run through whatever cycle the table linen was on.

Changing supplier is not the Friday risk Fingest chefs think

Most Fingest kitchens stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk on a Friday. It is not.

  1. Before you commit

    We size the brigade properly

We size the Fingest brigade in person rather than take a headcount off an invoice — the invoice tells us what you were sold, not what fits.

  2. The handover

Whites land before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Fingest section starts a shift on borrowed jackets.

  3. After

New starters go on the account the same week

Brigades change constantly. The account is set up so a new starter is a phone call, not a reorder.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

  • Running a high-end spa means going through hundreds of bathrobes and spa towels daily. Our rotation stays fully stocked with exceptionally soft, hygienically pristine textiles. Guest comfort has noticeably improved since we switched.
Siobhan O'Connor Spa Operations Director · Luxury health club & spa
  • Our members expect fresh sweat towels immediately after back-to-back spinning classes. They handle our daily volume seamlessly, and I would single out the punctuality and the clean, long-lasting scent of the eco-friendly detergents.
Marcus Thorne Studio Manager · Boutique fitness studio

Kitchen laundry in Fingest — what head chefs ask

Which round covers Fingest?

Yes — Fingest sits on the RG9 round, 7 days, 25.5 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Turville, Lane End and Hambleden — the same vehicle covers them, so a brigade here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • Collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens, which is what 25.5 miles buys you.
  • 2 kitchens around RG9 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for kitchen work rather than adapted to it.
Is there a price list for chef whites?

It is quoted, not tariffed. The number depends on sections and turnover, not on floor area.

  • We count a real week in Fingest before quoting — rather than pricing off your last invoice.
  • No minimum order — a two-section Fingest kitchen is priced per item, same as a brigade of thirty.
  • The count includes your busy season — a Fingest kitchen quoted off a quiet month runs short in the one that matters.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — we will count your week while you are still under someone else.
Do you take non-restaurant kitchens?

Yes. Contract catering, schools and care homes are all on the rounds.

  • School and care home kitchens run on the same rounds — there is no separate catering service to sign up to.
  • Term-time and seasonal swings are planned in — a quiet August is expected, not penalised.
  • Colour-coded cloths and named whites — suit sites that need an audit trail.
  • Contract caterers running several sites — are handled as one account across Buckinghamshire, not as separate customers.
Do you size every section, or go off a headcount?

We size the brigade before quoting, not after the first complaint.

  • Every section is sized at setup — not estimated from a headcount.
  • A new commis goes on the account the same week — brigades in Fingest change constantly, and the account is built for that.
  • Garments are named — so nobody is sorting a mixed box at the start of a shift.
  • Par counts are re-set after the first month — and again after your first busy season, which is where opening figures usually fail.
Can we choose our collection time in Fingest?

Yes — the RG9 round is sequenced around service patterns.

  • The time is agreed when the account opens — and a relief driver inherits it with the route.
  • A drop in the middle of prep is a drop nobody can receive. The round is sequenced around that.
  • If a drop is missed, collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens.
  • A relief driver inherits the window with the route — the timing is a property of the account, not of one driver remembering it.
Are we tied into a long contract?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — Fingest in August and Fingest in January are different kitchens, and the account should say so.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — there is no cost to finding out.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — you are never between suppliers.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Do you hire chef whites, or only launder ours in Fingest?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. One collection covers whichever way each line is set up.

  • Hire — stock, replacement and sizing are ours; you never place an order.
  • Wash-only — your own embroidered jackets come back to you, the same garments, named, not pooled.
  • Plenty of kitchens do both — hire what nobody reads, keep your own name on the whites.
  • You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account or renegotiating anything.
How is kitchen soil handled differently?

Yes — kitchen soil is classified separately from front of house.

  • Grease, protein and scorch need their own wash — and their own temperature.
  • Whites never run through the cycle the table linen was on — which is the usual reason jackets go grey.
  • Colour-coded cloths stay in their own classification — which matters on any site that needs an audit trail.
  • Every load is temperature logged — so there is a record behind the classification rather than an assurance.

Something specific to your Fingest kitchen?

The cheapest wash for Fingest is the second one you avoid

Most of the environmental cost of kitchen linen is rewashing and replacing it. Classifying kitchen soil properly the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • Fingest is a stop on a round that was already running, not a van dispatched for one kitchen.
  • Getting grease and protein out first time is what stops jackets being binned early.
  • Hire garments are repaired and rotated rather than binned at the first scorch mark.
