What goes wrong

Three things that cost Alfold cafes a supplier

Almost nobody around GU6 changes linen supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Deliveries that land after opening

A cafe opens earlier than almost anything else on the street. A drop timed for mid-morning is a drop that missed the shift it was for, and in Alfold that means serving the first hours on yesterday's cloths.

  • Cloths that come back grey

Coffee oil, milk protein and syrup are not the same soil as food service. Washed on a general cycle they build up, whites go dull within weeks, and the counter is where it shows.

  • Running short on the busy day

Par counts set on a quiet Tuesday leave you short on Saturday. Most Alfold cafes are not short of linen overall — they are short of it twice a week.

How it works

Four steps, and Alfold stops managing linen

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the count and the timing right and the service stops being something you manage.

Serving GU6 Since 2009
  1. The count

We count what Alfold actually uses across a full week — not an average week, because the average is exactly the number that leaves you short on a Saturday.

    Half an hour, on site

  2. The round

Alfold sits on the GU6 round at 33.1 miles out, so the drop time is set against your opening rather than against the traffic.

    GU6 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers. The first delivery arrives before the last collection of the old agreement.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

One name, who has seen your counter and knows the GU6 driver. Problems get solved on a call rather than logged.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one site around Waverley? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Your Alfold cloths, washed by us and nobody else

There are two buildings between your linen and ours, and we own both. Alfold collections run 33.1 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

What comes off a Alfold counter is not what comes out of a kitchen. Coffee oil and milk protein need their own cycle, and they get one — aprons and cloths are not run through whatever the machine was doing before.

Changing supplier is not the risk Alfold operators think

The reason Alfold operators put up with a supplier they have stopped rating is timing: there is no good week to risk it. That is a scheduling problem, not a reason to stay.

  1. Before you commit

We count a real week, not an average one

We watch a full Alfold week rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice tells us what you were sold, not what you used.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose. Alfold gets its first delivery while the old supplier is still collecting, so there is no morning in between.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Any first count is a guess. The difference is whether anyone comes back and corrects it — after four weeks, we do.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

  • Running a high-end spa means going through hundreds of bathrobes and spa towels daily. Our rotation stays fully stocked with exceptionally soft, hygienically pristine textiles. Guest comfort has noticeably improved since we switched.
Siobhan O'Connor Spa Operations Director · Luxury health club & spa
  • Our members expect fresh sweat towels immediately after back-to-back spinning classes. They handle our daily volume seamlessly, and I would single out the punctuality and the clean, long-lasting scent of the eco-friendly detergents.
Marcus Thorne Studio Manager · Boutique fitness studio
  • In clinical and aesthetic practice, hygiene standards have to meet rigorous compliance. High-temperature sanitised gowns, drapes and bed covers arrive reliably every week. I trust their quality control completely.
Dr Elena Rostova Clinic Director · Private healthcare clinic
  • For high-end short-stay apartments, guest reviews live and die by linen quality. We get hotel-grade crispness that consistently earns us five-star cleanliness ratings, and the communication lines are short when something needs resolving.
Beatrice Dupont Head of Housekeeping · Luxury serviced apartments
  • We use dozens of salon towels and client gowns every day. Stubborn hair dye and product stains come out effortlessly and our capes still look new. They are an indispensable part of the daily flow here.
Chloe St. Laurent Salon Owner & Manager · Hair & beauty salon
  • We rely on clean bolster covers, fleece blankets and eye pillows. Delicate fabrics are treated with care while still getting a deep, hypoallergenic sanitisation, and everything comes back beautifully presented.
Hannah Sterling Studio Coordinator · Yoga & pilates studio
  • From velvet seat throws to staff aprons and heavy bar towels, our eclectic mix of textiles is handled without fuss. The turnaround times and the account management are what stand out.
Kieran Davies Venue & Hospitality Manager · Boutique cinema & lounge
  • As a family-run Victorian B&B we need a partner who understands traditional hospitality. Our heritage cotton sheets are treated with real care, the drivers are friendly and the weekly delivery is consistent.

Alfold — what the round has to work around

A quiet, rural village on the Surrey/Sussex border with a rich canal-side history. Unique to Alfold.

Alfold is collected 7 days on a shared round, so a single-site cafe here costs a stop rather than a journey.

Asked most often about Alfold cafe linen

Is Alfold on a collection round?

Yes — Alfold sits on the GU6 round, 7 days, 33.1 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Dunsfold, Cranleigh and Hascombe — adding you changes the schedule, not the route.
  • Collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens, because of that distance.
Is the food side priced separately?

No. Kitchen cloths and table linen go on the same GU6 collection and the same invoice.

  • No second supplier and no second delivery day — one account covers both sides of the counter.
  • Chef whites, oven cloths and table linen — priced per item on the account you already have.
  • If the kitchen is the bigger half — the restaurant page explains pricing by covers rather than by counter.
Is the Alfold delivery before or after opening?

That is the point of putting Alfold on the GU6 round rather than a separate trip. Cafes open earlier than almost anything else we serve.

  • The time is agreed when the account opens — and a relief driver inherits it with the route.
  • A mid-morning drop missed the shift it was for. We schedule against your opening time, not ours.
  • If a drop is missed, collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens.
Is there a reason our Alfold whites do not stay white?

It is the wash, not the cloth. On a general cycle they build up and whites dull within weeks.

  • Cafe cloths and aprons run on their own classification — not as the tail end of a kitchen load.
  • Milk protein needs the right temperature, not just a hotter one — past a point, heat bonds the protein to the cloth.
  • Grey whites are usually a wash problem, not an age problem — if stock is replaced every few months, the cycle is wrong.
Are we tied into a long contract?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — you are not held to a peak figure through a quiet quarter.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your week while you are still under someone else.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — so there is never a morning in Alfold with nothing clean.
Is there a minimum order for a Alfold cafe?

No minimum, on any line. Most of what we collect in GU6 is exactly that size.

  • Small sites go on the same GU6 round — so you are not paying for a dedicated trip into Alfold.
  • A dozen aprons and a bundle of tea towels is a real account — small does not mean awkward.
  • Volume changes are expected — we adjust rather than hold you to a winter figure.
Can we keep our own branded aprons in Alfold?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. The two sit on one invoice and one round.

  • Hire — the count is maintained for you, including the items that wear out first.
  • Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
  • Plenty of cafes do both — hire what nobody sees, keep your own name on what the customer does.
How quickly can you top us up in Alfold?

Tell your account manager and collections here run to scheduled days, agreed when the account opens.

  • If it happens twice, the par count is wrong — we reset it against what you actually used, not what was estimated at setup.
  • Most Alfold cafes are not short of linen overall — the weekly total is fine; the weekend distribution is not.
  • Seasonal swings are planned in — Alfold in December is not Alfold in February, and the par count should know that.

Rewashing Alfold linen is the real environmental cost

Most of the environmental cost of cafe linen is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • The GU6 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Alfold.
  • Cloths that keep their colour get replaced on wear, not on appearance.
  • A marked apron is repaired and put back into rotation, not written off.
