What goes wrong

Three things that cost Oxted clubs a supplier

Almost nobody around RH8 changes towel supplier to save money. They change because the same thing went wrong three weeks running.

  • Running out at the evening peak

Towel demand stacks into roughly two hours rather than spreading across opening. A par count set on a daily average leaves the Oxted rack empty exactly when the floor is busiest.

  • Towels that come back smelling

Sweat and body oil build up in the fibre and a general wash does not shift them. The towel smells clean cold, then smells again once it is warm and damp — which a member notices before you do.

  • Stock that never quite balances

Towels walk. Every Oxted club loses some, and an account that does not plan for shrinkage turns into a monthly argument about counts.

How it works

Getting a Oxted club onto the round

Most of the work happens before the first collection. Get the peak-hour count right and the towel rack stops being something the duty manager thinks about.

Serving RH8 Since 2009
  1. The count

An hour on the Oxted floor at the time it actually matters. The number that matters is the five-to-seven number, not the daily one.

    An hour, at peak

  2. The round

RH8 already has a collection day. We fit you to it and agree a time that lands before the evening rush rather than during it.

    RH8 · 7 days

  3. The switch

You are never between suppliers, and no evening is covered by rationing towels.

    No gap in service

  4. The account

One name, who has seen your floor at peak. Changes get made on a call rather than logged as a ticket.

    One name, not a queue

Running more than one club around Tandridge? The same account manager covers all of them, on staggered days so no site is left short.

How it is processed

Your Oxted stock, washed by us and nobody else

There are two buildings between your towels and ours, and we own both. Oxted collections run 24.2 miles to our Wembley plant. Nothing is passed to a third party in between.

Softener is the usual culprit behind a towel that stops absorbing: it coats the fibre. Gym stock runs without it, which is why ours keeps drying rather than smearing.

Switching supplier in Oxted without an empty rack

Most Oxted clubs stay with a supplier they have stopped rating, because changing one feels like a risk in the week membership is highest. It is not.

  1. Before you commit

We count your peak, not your average

We count the Oxted floor between five and seven rather than take a number off your last invoice — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.

  2. The handover

Stock lands before the old supplier stops

The two contracts overlap on purpose, so no Oxted evening is covered by rationing what is left on the rack.

  3. After

Par counts adjust once we have seen a month

Month one is a measurement. From month two the par count reflects your real peak and your real shrinkage rather than an opening guess.

Nothing here needs you to be out of contract first — the count and the quote cost nothing.

About Oxted

Oxted, specifically

An affluent market town at the foot of the North Downs with an iconic high street and elite rail links. Unique to Oxted.

Clubs here sit on the RH8 round, and the hour that matters is the evening peak rather than the morning — Oxted is close enough that a disrupted run is a second trip that day.

Oxted towel service — the questions we get most

Do you collect in Oxted?

Yes — Oxted sits on the RH8 round, 7 days, 24.2 miles from our Wembley plant.

  • Shared with Limpsfield, Hurst Green and Woldingham — the same vehicle covers them, so a club here can be added without moving anyone else.
  • The driver knows the streets around Oxted — route knowledge is most of what separates a kept window from a missed one.
  • A missed window here is picked up on the next round rather than the next week, because of that distance.
  • 4 clubs and spas around RH8 are already on this round — so the vehicle is sized for towel volume rather than adapted to it.
What stops us running short in the evening?

The par count is set on your busiest two hours, not on an average day. Towel demand does not spread evenly across opening hours — it stacks, and an average hides exactly that.

  • We count on site at the time it matters — the invoice records what you were sold, not what the rack needed.
  • A Monday evening and a Sunday morning are different businesses — and a single number that averages them fails on the busier one.
  • January is planned in — a Oxted club in January is not the same club in August, and the account should say so.
  • If you run short twice, the count is wrong — a second shortage is a counting error, not bad luck.
Do Oxted clubs have to buy their own towels?

Both, and mixed accounts are normal. Plenty of Oxted clubs run half and half.

  • Hire — we own the stock, replace what wears out and carry the cost of a towel that greys in month two.
  • Wash-only — item for item, never substituted.
  • Most clubs split it — the logo matters on a robe, rarely on a sweat towel.
  • You can move a line between the two later — without reopening the account.
Can you handle a spa as well as a gym floor?

Yes. One collection, two specifications. A gym floor wants volume and absorbency; a spa wants handle and appearance.

  • Robes are laundered to keep their handle — which is a different process from turning round sweat towels at volume.
  • Bath mats run on a heavier classification — and they are counted separately for the same reason.
  • One collection, one invoice — the split is in the classification, not in the account.
  • Hotel spas are a normal account — and the hotel laundry page covers how the rooms side is priced.
Is there a minimum term?

No long-term tie-in and no exit fee. We would rather keep you on the service than on the paperwork.

  • Terms flex with seasonal demand — you are not held to a peak figure through a quiet quarter.
  • Nothing needs you to be out of your current contract first — we will count your peak while you are still under someone else.
  • Stock arrives before the old supplier is stood down — the two overlap by design.
  • If it is not working, say so — most problems are a wrong par count or a wrong delivery window, and both are fixable without changing supplier.
Our towels smell after a few hours — why?

Because the wash was wrong, not because the towel is finished. Cold it is fine; warm and damp it is not, and that is after it has reached a member.

  • Gym towelling runs on its own classification — the programme is chosen for body oil rather than inherited from whatever ran before.
  • Oil needs a different temperature from sweat — softener is the usual culprit: it smells pleasant and stops the towel drying anything.
  • Towels that stop absorbing are usually over-softened, not worn out — and the fix costs nothing but a change of classification.
  • Every load is temperature logged — and the log sits against your account, not a general plant figure.
Members take towels — how is that counted?

Shrinkage is normal and predictable. We plan for it rather than dispute it.

  • Expected loss is built into the par count at setup — which is the difference between a working count and an optimistic one.
  • You get the actual numbers each cycle — in and out, per collection, so the figure is checkable.
  • A sudden jump in loss is worth knowing about — it usually means a change on the floor rather than a laundry problem.
  • On hire, fair wear is our cost — not a charge back to you.
What would a Oxted club cost to supply?

There is no honest price list for towel work. Towel volume depends on member numbers and how hard the floor turns over, so a published list would be wrong for most clubs.

  • We count a real week in Oxted before quoting — the invoice records what you were sold, not what you used.
  • The count includes January — which is the one spike everybody knows is coming and most quotes ignore.
  • No minimum order — so a boutique studio is an ordinary account and is priced per item like any other.
  • The count and the quote cost nothing — and commit you to nothing.

Rewashing Oxted linen is the real environmental cost

Most of the environmental cost of gym towelling is rewashing and replacing it. Getting the classification right the first time does more than any claim on a van.

  • The RH8 round is a shared journey rather than a separate trip to Oxted.
  • Most towels retired early are over-softened rather than worn out.
  • Hire stock is rotated through its full life rather than binned when it greys.
