Finding your community

We collect dry cleaning from the office districts of DIFC and Business Bay, the older streets of Deira and Bur Dubai and gated villa communities like Arabian Ranches. The drive costs you nothing and the 24-hour return applies throughout.

Dubai is split into 13 zones on our list, with 137 communities named the way you'd type them: JVC, Al Barsha 1, Mirdif, Business Bay. Look for your zone and your area sits inside it.

Pickup and return are free in every one, and a kandura costs the same by the Creek as it does in Dubai South. Beyond Dubai we reach all seven emirates, with Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah on weekly schedules.

A tower that's only just been handed over may not be named yet. Drop a pin on WhatsApp and we'll check.

Nothing is charged by weight. A ghutra costs AED 10, a kandura AED 15, a crepe abaya AED 18 and a jacket-and-trousers suit AED 75.

More work means a higher line. An embellished abaya is AED 45, a sari AED 61 and a padded winter jacket AED 181.

What we watch on every piece

The suit for the board meeting, the abaya kept for Eid, the sherwani from a cousin's wedding. These are the four things we check every time.

    • Cut kept

No wringing or hot tumbling, so a jacket keeps its shoulder and an abaya its fall.

    • Shade kept

Deep black stays deep, and white kanduras don't drift towards grey.

    • Trim counted

Stones, lace and thread work are looked at one by one before cleaning.

    • Oil marks first

Perfume oil, sweat and sunscreen are worked on by hand before the main clean.

Machine-wash clothes go to our Dubai wash and fold, and home linen, footwear and handbags have services of their own. One driver can take them all, as long as each is bagged separately. Dubai wash and fold

    2. Abaya pins, brooches and pens taken out

    Which fabrics go

Anything labelled dry clean belongs in this bag, along with the pieces you'd hate to see shrink or fade. T-shirts and gym kit travel separately.

Crepe and georgette abayas, chiffon, silk, wool suiting, heavily worked thread and beads are the core of it. Water and a spin can tighten a lining, pull a pleat out of line or dull a deep black, which is why the label asks for a cleaner.

Cotton tees, jeans and bath towels don't need us, and wedding gowns, leather and suede aren't on our list, so send a WhatsApp before packing any of those.

Last of all, unpin anything pinned and jot down the marks with their causes. A note that says 'oud oil, left sleeve' saves time on the other end.

    Dubai dry cleaning FAQ

What is dry cleaning in Dubai?

It's cleaning in specialist solvents instead of water, collected from your Dubai home. LPlaundry's driver takes the bag from your door, every garment is looked over by hand, marks are worked on first and the fabric is cleaned the way its label asks. It's finished with steam and back on a hanger within 24 hours.

    • Solvent, not a water wash
    • Picked up free across Dubai
    • Hung and returned in 24 hours

What do dry cleaners in Dubai charge for a kandura or an abaya?

Each has a fixed price: see the prices section for the current figures. A white or wool kandura sits on one line and a plain crepe or nida abaya on another, and an abaya with crystals, lace or embroidery moves to the delicate line because it takes longer. A ghutra and a sirwal have figures of their own too.

    • Kandura: one fixed line
    • Plain and delicate abayas priced apart
    • Ghutra and sirwal listed separately

How often should a suit be dry cleaned in Dubai's heat?

In summer, every three or four wearings is a sensible rhythm. Heat outside and a chilled office means sweat dries into the lining over and over, and salt left in wool stiffens it and can leave a shine. In the cooler months you can stretch it further. Clean straight away after a spill, and always before it's put away.

    • Summer: every few wears
    • Cooler months: less often
    • Always before storing

Can a silk or chiffon abaya be dry cleaned?

Yes, and silk and chiffon are exactly what dry cleaning is for. Water can mark silk and tighten a lining, and chiffon frays if it's rubbed. We look the abaya over, shield any beading or lace, treat make-up and perfume marks by hand, then clean it gently and finish it on a hanger. Embellished ones go on the delicate price line.

    • Silk and chiffon suit dry cleaning
    • Beading and lace shielded
    • Embellished: delicate line

Will oud or perfume oil come out of my clothes?

Usually, if it's treated before it has sat for long. Attar is oil-based rather than alcohol-based, so it stays in the fibres and can darken on silk or yellow a white kandura. Tell us where it went on and roughly when. That spot gets worked on by hand before cleaning, which is when an oil mark gives way best.

    • Oil marks need early treatment
    • Say where and when
    • Worked on before the clean

How fast can I get dry cleaning back in Dubai?

Within 24 hours of collection as standard. Very fragile pieces, such as a beaded gown, can take longer, depending on the piece, and we'll tell you at pickup. If you can't wait, the 5-hour express covers the main areas of Dubai for orders made before 2 PM, so a stained dress can be ready by evening.

    • Usual: within a day
    • Fragile pieces: time varies
    • Express: 5 hours, before 2 PM

Should I dry clean winter coats before storing them for summer?

Yes, clean them before they go away. Tiny traces of food and sweat on wool become a feast for moths over months in a warm cupboard, and a humid summer can leave a musty smell. Have coats and wool kanduras cleaned at the end of the cool season, then store them with the plastic off and some air around each one.

    • Clean first, then store
    • Wool attracts moths when soiled
    • Uncover for long storage

Why does my white kandura go yellow at the neck?

Mostly sweat, skin oil and perfume left to sit in the heat. The neckline and cuffs touch skin all day, and the longer a mark stays, the harder the yellowing is to shift. Send kanduras while marks are fresh and avoid drying whites in strong sun. Our guide on keeping a white kandura white goes further.

    • Sweat and oil build up
    • New marks shift easier
    • Send them early

Which fabrics have to be dry cleaned?

Anything whose care label asks for it. Silk, wool suiting, crepe, georgette, chiffon and beaded or heavily embroidered pieces are the usual ones. They shrink, lose their shape or fade in water. Plain cotton and jeans don't need us. Leather, suede and wedding gowns aren't on our list, so message first.

    • The label decides
    • Silk, wool, crepe, chiffon
    • Leather, suede: ask first

Can I leave my dry cleaning with my building's security?

Yes, if your building has a security desk or concierge that accepts parcels. Tell us when you book so the driver asks there, and write your name and unit number on the tag. In a gated villa community, mention it if the gate needs a visitor pass for our driver, and we'll have the details ready on arrival.

    • A security desk, if your tower has one
    • Name and unit on the tag
    • Visitor pass? Mention it early

    Dry cleaning, the Dubai way

A Dubai suit has a hard life. Through July and August the average high runs above 43°C with heavy humidity on the coast, and then you walk into an office kept at a temperature that needs a jacket. That swing from street to air-conditioning is what wears suiting out here. Sweat soaks into the lining on the way from the car park, dries in the cold, and does it again at lunch. In DIFC, a financial free zone of 110 hectares with over 3,000 companies, and in Business Bay, a district of more than 240 buildings south of Downtown, a suit can go through that cycle twice a day. Clean it every few wearings in summer, before the salt stiffens the cloth, and it lasts a lot longer.

    Read moreShow less

Then there's scent. Attar is perfume with an oil base rather than alcohol. If you dab oud or another oil straight onto a kandura, an abaya or a ghutra, it doesn't evaporate the way an alcohol spray does. On silk or chiffon it leaves a shadow that darkens with time, and on a white kandura it can yellow the tassel and the neckline. Tell us which side you put it on and what it was, and that patch gets worked on by hand before the clean.

Abayas in the UAE are often crepe, georgette or chiffon, and they often come in beige or white because the climate suits light colours. Those pale shades show make-up, sand and the grey line along the bottom edge from a walk through a car park. Kanduras follow the year: white or beige through the heat, with coloured wool ones coming out in the cool months, when winter days average around 25°C and coastal nights drop to the low teens. Wool belongs with a dry cleaner, so book a clean when you swap them over, not when they start to smell.

Dust gets in too. The summer shamal blows from the north-west and lifts desert sand, and it finds its way into the shoulders of a suit hanging by a window and the folds of a stored coat. Covers help, but in a humid wardrobe take the plastic off anything you're keeping for months.

Handing over is simple. Leave the bag at your door, or with the security desk if your building has one, and in a gated villa community mention it when you book if the driver will need a visitor pass at the gate.

    • Street heat, cold officeSweat dries into suit linings between the car park and the desk. Clean every few wears in summer.
    • Oud and attarOil-based scent leaves marks on silk and white cloth. Tell us where it went on.
    • Swap-over timeWhen white kanduras give way to wool ones, send the outgoing set before it's stored.
    • Desk or gateDoor, or security desk if your tower has one. Gate pass needed? Say so when booking.

    More than kanduras

The same pickup that takes your suits and kanduras can take a bag for any of these.

Keep a bag per service. Dry cleaning stays together, while the week's washing or a pair of trainers travels on its own, so nothing ends up in the wrong process.
