Laundry Service in the UAE, Pickup & Delivery
LPlaundry is a laundry service with free doorstep laundry pickup and delivery across all seven emirates. We collect in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. A 6kg wash and fold bag is AED 65; shirts are cleaned and hung from AED 18 each. Kanduras and abayas are fine too. In many areas your laundry is back in 24 hours, and we confirm your return day when you book.

Wash and fold in all seven emirates, by the bag
Our wash and fold laundry service across the UAE runs on flat-rate laundry bags, not a price per piece. Up to 6kg of everyday clothes goes in one bag for AED 65. A driver collects it free, we sort it, wash it on gentle detergents, dry it without high heat and fold it. In many areas it's a next-day laundry service, with the bag back at your door within 24 hours; elsewhere we confirm the return day as you book.

What a wash and fold order includes
Every bag gets the same five jobs done to it, in this order. Nothing is skipped because a bag is small, and nothing costs extra because it's full.
- Sorted by hand: whites and pale colours one way, darks and new denim the other, and thin or stretchy pieces lifted out for a gentler cycle.
- A quick look for marks: collars, cuffs and underarms are checked before the machine, because a sweat line that has been washed and dried once is far harder to shift later.
- Washed on gentle products: biodegradable, hypoallergenic detergent with no heavy perfume left in the cotton.
- Dried low and slow: no high heat, so a medium polo stays a medium and gym leggings keep their stretch.
- Folded and packed: each piece folded flat, checked again and bagged to go home.
What it doesn't include is an iron. Folded cotton has soft creases from the fold, which is fine for a drawer. If you need a sharp collar, that piece belongs in Clean & Press.
How our UAE laundry service works
- Send a WhatsApp. Drop your location pin and say roughly when the driver can come. No app, no account, and someone answers at any hour.
- Fill the bag. Everyday clothes only, pockets emptied. Write your name and apartment or villa number on a tag so the bag is easy to match at the door.
- Hand it over. The driver collects from your door, or from the security desk or concierge if your building has one. The trip costs nothing.
- We wash, dry and fold. Sorted first, washed gently, dried without high heat, then folded and checked piece by piece.
- It comes back. Live updates on WhatsApp tell you it's on the way, and delivery is free as well.
Got shirts for Clean & Press as well? Give them a bag of their own and list both in the one chat. The same driver takes the lot.
Clothes and fabrics that suit the bag
If the label shows a washtub, it's a candidate. The dots inside the tub give the highest safe temperature: one dot means 30°C, two mean 40°C, three mean 50°C. A hand in the tub means hand wash, and a tub with a cross through it means keep it out.
- Cotton basics: T-shirts, vests, polos, cotton shorts and the loose linen-cotton shirts you live in from May to October.
- Denim and casual trousers: jeans, chinos, joggers. Zip them up and turn dark denim inside out so the dye stays where it belongs.
- Gym and sports kit: polyester running tops, elastane leggings, football shirts and socks from the five-a-side pitch.
- Nightwear and underwear: cotton pyjamas, briefs, boxers and socks. A mesh wash bag keeps small things together.
- Children's clothes: school polos and PE shorts, play clothes, cotton baby sleepsuits with the poppers closed.
- Beach and pool wear: cotton cover-ups and kids' rash vests, rinsed of chlorine and dried before they're bagged.
What stays out of the bag, and where it goes
A bag of everyday washing is the wrong place for a few things. Most of them still go on the same pickup, just on a different list.
- Kanduras, abayas, suits and office shirts you want crisp: Clean & Press, priced per piece and returned on hangers.
- A washtub with a cross through it on the label: that fabric shouldn't meet water. Silk, beading, sequins and wool coats go to our dry cleaning page.
- Lace lingerie and hand-wash knits: better kept at home, or asked about first.
- Anything still wet: damp swimwear or a towel straight from the pool sours a whole bag in the heat. Dry it first.
- Things that aren't clothes: the row of links above the tabs takes you to the right page.
How we treat your washing: sorting, detergent, drying
The difference between a good laundry and a bad one is rarely the machine. It's the minute spent sorting before the door shuts.
- Colour first. One new navy hoodie can grey a whole load of white school shirts, so darks and lights never share a drum.
- Weight second. Heavy denim and fine jersey are split, so the jeans don't rub pills into the soft tops.
- A machine for your load only. Once sorted, your clothes are washed in a machine of their own and never combined with another customer's. What comes home is only ever yours.
- Sanitised in between. Each machine is sanitised between cycles before the next load goes in.
- Strong but kind detergent. A commercial-grade product that is still biodegradable and hypoallergenic, chosen for sensitive skin and for clothes worn close to the body all day in the heat.
- Low heat in the dryer. Shrinking and stiff waistbands come from heat, so we keep it down and check the thick seams are dry before folding.
- A last check by hand. Every item is looked at as it's folded, which is when a missed mark or a loose button gets noticed.
Collection across the seven emirates
Drivers collect in all seven: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Pickup and delivery are free in every one of them.
- Towers: leave the bag with the security desk if your building has one, or hand it over at your own door.
- Villas: the driver comes to the front door. If your community needs a gate pass, sort it before the slot.
- Hotel apartments: give the room number and check whether reception accepts laundry bags.
- The northern emirates: Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah run on set weekly collection days, so ask which day reaches you.
Not sure we cover your street? Check the areas we cover, or send the location pin before you book and we'll say straight away.
Monthly plans for a weekly pickup
If the basket fills at the same speed every week, a plan is the most budget-friendly wash and fold we offer: no rebooking, and each bag costs less than buying them one at a time.
- Essential: four bags a month, one collected each week, for AED 250. Enough for one or two people.
- Family: eight bags a month, two each week, for AED 450. Uniforms, sports kit and pyjamas for a full house.
- No plan: a single bag whenever you need it, at AED 65.
Plan bags are picked up on a fixed day, so you'll know which morning to have them by the door. Ask in the chat to start one.
Timing, express and stains
In many areas, wash and fold is back within 24 hours of the driver taking the bag. Elsewhere we confirm the return day when you book, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah also run on a weekly collection day, so ask which one reaches you.
Need a same-day laundry service? Express laundry delivery turns the bag round in 5 hours when you order before 2 PM, where your location is covered. Ask on WhatsApp before you count on it.
- Name the stain. Sunscreen on a strap, ketchup on a school shirt, grass on football socks: tell us what it is and where.
- Say what you tried. A bleach pen or a stain spray changes how a mark should be treated next.
- Dry before bagging. Damp swimwear zipped into a bag in the summer heat turns sour within hours.
Clean and press across the UAE, per garment
Clean and press is laundry by the item, for clothes you want back crisp on a hanger rather than folded. Office shirts, trousers, kanduras, abayas and day dresses are cleaned the way each care label asks, steam pressed by hand and hung. A shirt is AED 18, collection is free from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, and a standard order is back within 24 hours in many areas, or on a day we confirm when you book.
A shirtAED 18cleaned, pressed and hung
- A fixed price for each garment
- Pressed by hand with steam
- Returned on hangers in breathable covers
- 24h in many areas; delicates take longer
- Trousers creased, or not, as you like

Clean and press prices, garment by garment
| Garment | Each |
|---|---|
| Office shirt | AED 18 |
| Blouse | AED 18 |
| Trousers or jeansFront crease only if you want one | AED 23 |
| Skirt | AED 23 |
| Two-piece suitJacket and trousers together | AED 75 |
| Day dress | AED 45 |
| Kandura | AED 15 |
| Ghutra | AED 10 |
| Plain abaya | AED 18 |
| Jalabiya | AED 26 |
| Men's kurta | AED 15 |
| Coat | AED 66 |
Delicate abayas, saris, evening dresses and heavy winter coats each have their own line on the full price list. Collection and delivery are free on top.
What clean and press includes
You pay one figure per garment, and that figure covers every stage below. There's no extra line for stain work or for the hanger.
- Inspection: label read, pockets checked, buttons and seams looked over.
- Stains first: marks are treated by hand before the garment goes near a machine.
- Cleaning to the label: washable cottons and blends go through a cool-water wash that won't shrink them. Pieces whose labels ask for specialist cleaning get it.
- Drying in filtered air: no tumble dryer, so collars don't pucker and fit doesn't change.
- Steam pressing by hand: collars, cuffs, plackets and pleats done one at a time.
- Three checks, then a hanger: each item is checked three times, hung and covered in a breathable bag.
Clean and press in every emirate, from pickup to wardrobe
- Message us your list. "Six work shirts, two kanduras, one pair of suit trousers" is plenty. Add how you like things pressed.
- Pack them apart. Pressing clothes go in their own bag, away from the wash and fold bag, so nothing is mixed up at sorting.
- Free collection. The driver takes the bag from your door, or from the concierge if your building has one.
- Cleaned, dried, pressed. Each garment on its own, in the order above.
- Back on hangers. Within 24 hours in many areas (elsewhere, the day is set when you book), covered and ready to hang straight in the wardrobe or wear that evening.
Garments and fabrics that suit clean and press
Anything you'd normally iron before wearing is the right fit. The common ones:
- Work shirts: cotton poplin, oxford cloth, easy-care blends, short or long sleeved. Collars and cuffs get the most attention.
- Blouses and skirts: viscose, polyester crepe and cotton voile that shows every crease at a desk.
- Trousers and suits: office trousers, chinos and wool-blend two-piece suits. A jacket is shaped on the steam, never flattened.
- Kanduras and thobes: white cotton or poly-cotton, pressed long and straight down the front so the fall is clean.
- Ghutras: pressed flat with the edges square.
- Abayas and jalabiyas: plain crepe and georgette, steamed rather than ironed hard, so black stays matt. A matching shayla can travel with its abaya; ask for its price in the chat.
- Kurtas and sirwal: cotton and linen sets, kept together on the order.
- School shirts: when you want the collar right for a photo day or an event.
When another service fits better
- Already clean, only creased? If you've washed shirts at home and just can't face the board, our pressing service steams them flat without another wash.
- Dry clean only, or very delicate? Silk, beading, sequins, lace panels, heavy wool coats and evening gowns go to dry cleaning, where solvents suit the fabric better than water.
- T-shirts, gym kit, pyjamas? Those don't need a hanger. Wash & Fold does them by the bag.
Unsure about one piece? Send a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which list it belongs on before the driver comes.
Pressing standards and the care label
The iron symbol on a label tells you how much heat a fabric can take. One dot is about 110°C, for acrylics and some synthetics. Two dots, about 150°C, suits wool, silk and polyester blends. Three dots, about 200°C, is for cotton and linen. A cross through the iron means steam only, or no pressing at all.
- Steam over pressure. Dark crepe pressed hard under a hot plate goes shiny, which is why abayas and suit trousers are steamed.
- Collars and cuffs by hand. The bits people look at are finished one at a time, not pushed through in a batch.
- Your crease, your call. Sharp line down the trouser front, or none? Shirts folded for a suitcase rather than hung? Say so and it goes on the order.
- Breathable covers. Plastic traps humidity against the cloth; a breathable bag keeps dust off and lets it air.
Pickup and return from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah
Clean and press is collected the same way as any other order, free, in all seven emirates. The difference is on the way back: it arrives hanging, so plan where it can go.
- Apartment towers: if your building has a security desk that takes deliveries, hung clothes can wait there.
- Villa communities: the driver comes to the door. Arrange the gate pass first if your community needs one.
- The northern emirates: Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah have weekly collection days. Ask which one is yours.
How long it takes, and the 5-hour option
In many areas, standard clean and press is back within 24 hours of collection; elsewhere we confirm the day when you book. Very delicate pieces can take longer. How long depends on the piece, and we tell you at pickup.
A shirt for tonight's dinner? Book express before 2 PM and it can be back on its hanger 5 hours later, where your location is covered. That depends on the exact address, so check on WhatsApp first.
Stains, collars and special requests
- Yellow collar lines: sweat and skin oil build up on white kanduras and shirts in summer. The sooner they're sent, the more of it lifts.
- Perfume oil and oud: they leave a dark ring on light cotton. Point to the spot and tell us it was perfume.
- Turmeric and curry: bright and stubborn. Don't rub hot water into it; tell us what it was instead.
- Your own instructions: no crease, a particular fold, a loose button you've noticed. Everything you put in the chat is written on the order.
Duvets, sheets and towels across the UAE, per item
Our bedding laundry service covers the heavy things a home washer-dryer struggles with: duvets, comforters, pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, bath towels and robes. Each has a price line of its own, so a sheet is AED 25, a duvet AED 56 and a towel AED 7. Pickup costs nothing anywhere from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah. Bulky item washing takes the longest: duvets, comforters and blankets usually need 48 to 72 hours, and your return day is confirmed when you book.

- Each piece priced on its own line
- Single to king, in drums with room to tumble
- Bulky bedding: usually 48 to 72 hours
- Hypoallergenic, biodegradable detergent
- Nothing folded while the filling is damp
- Towels rinsed long so the loops stay soft

What bed and bath laundry costs in the UAE

| Duvet or comforter coverSent off the quilt, as its own piece | AED 31 |

| Bedspread | AED 29 |
| BlanketBigger sizes have their own line | AED 26 |
| Bath towel | AED 7 |
| Bathrobe | AED 19 |
| Sofa coverRegular size, zip-off | AED 46 |
Cushion covers, the larger sofa cover, tablecloths, place mats and bathroom mats are on the full UAE price list. The same figures apply in every emirate, and the driver's trips cost nothing.
What a bed and bath order covers
The price on each line pays for the full treatment of that piece. Sheets and pillowcases get a proper bed linen wash and fold, coming back washed, dried right through and folded, but they're still charged per piece, never by the bag. A pillowcase gets the same care as a king quilt, just less drying time.
- A look over by hand: seams, corners and stitched rows are checked, along with any marks you've told us about, before anything is loaded.
- A drum with space: big pieces go in machines large enough for the filling to fall open as it turns, so the water reaches the middle as well as the outside.
- Mild products: a biodegradable, hypoallergenic detergent, which matters for a pillow your cheek rests on till morning.
- Drying to the centre: a quilt keeps tumbling until the inside matches the shell. That's the slow part, and the part a balcony rail can't do.
- Folded and bagged: only once every piece is dry, so it can go into a cupboard without picking up a musty smell.
Covers are counted on their own at AED 31, because they're washed off the quilt, not on it.
Booking a bedding collection, start to finish
- Count what's going. A rough list in a WhatsApp message is enough: two duvets, four pillows, the sheets from both bedrooms, a stack of towels. Add your location pin.
- Get a reply. Someone from the team confirms the pickup time, and the same reply names your return day.
- Bag it up. Quilts go in rolled up and tied; the lighter linen travels in a second bag.
- The driver collects. From your door, or the lobby desk where there is one. There's no fee for the trip.
- Follow it. Live updates on WhatsApp show where the order is until it's handed back.
The team answers 24/7, which helps when the beds only get stripped at midnight.
Duvets, comforters and blankets
Duvet cleaning and comforter cleaning sit on the same line of our list, at AED 56 each, from a single up to a king. What changes is how we check them.
- Duvets: a loose fill inside a plain shell, worn under a removable cover. The cover comes off first and is washed apart.
- Comforters: sewn into quilted squares, with a decorative top that goes on the bed bare. Those squares never dry evenly, so a hand runs down every row before it's signed off.
- Blankets: a standard blanket is AED 26, and the large size has a line of its own.
- Bedspreads: the top layer that collects AC dust all day is AED 29. Mention any beading or fringe when you book.
If a seam has split and fill is creeping out, send a photo before collection so we can decide how to treat it.
Pillows, sheets and mattress protectors
These are the pieces that get changed most often in the hot months, and the ones that show wear first.
- Pillows: AED 19 each. Washing plus a slow tumble puffs most pillows up again, provided the fill isn't worn out. Quick test at home: bend it double and let go. A pillow that stays bent won't recover. Memory foam is never washed.
- Sheets: fitted and flat at AED 25. Hairpins and earring backs love the elastic corners, so give each a good shake over the floor.
- Pillowcases: AED 9. Kohl, hair oil and night cream mark them early. Tell us about a smudge rather than scrubbing it with soap first.
- Mattress protectors: AED 35. Some have a waterproof backing that cracks with heat, so check the label and pass on what it says.
Towel laundry, robes and the rest of the house
A towel goes rough when detergent stays caught in the terry loops, so our towel laundry service gives every one an extra-long rinse before a full tumble. They're charged at AED 7 a towel and AED 19 for a robe.
- Robes: a heavy shawl collar holds water longest, so that's where we feel before folding. Pack the belt with it.
- Bathroom mats: cotton ones are fine. If the rubber underneath is flaking, keep that one back.
- Sofa and cushion covers: a regular zip-off sofa cover is AED 46. Take a photo before unzipping so you know which cover fits which cushion.
- Table linen: a tablecloth after a family dinner is AED 19. Let it air before bagging and say what the stains are.
Never zip a wet towel into the quilt bag; in UAE heat the damp moves into the filling.
What stays home, and where clothes go
A few things shouldn't go in any washer, ours included. Leave these out of the bag:
- Electric or heated blankets, which carry wiring.
- Memory foam pillows and toppers.
- Weighted blankets filled with beads.
- Anything whose label shows a tub crossed out. Send us a photo of it on WhatsApp and we'll say yes or no before the driver comes.
Clothes travel separately. T-shirts, jeans and gym kit go by the bag under Wash & Fold; shirts, kanduras and abayas you want on a hanger go under Clean & Press. Give each service a separate bag and one driver can take all three. For every bedding item we take, with care tips for each, see the bed and bath page.
Why bulky bedding takes 48 to 72 hours
In duvet and comforter laundering, the washing is the quick part. Polyester or feather filling keeps moisture locked in its core long after the outside feels ready. Put away like that in an air-conditioned wardrobe, it starts to smell sour.
- The usual time: duvets, comforters and other big pieces need 48 to 72 hours from the moment the driver takes them.
- Your exact day: the chat that books the pickup also sets your return day, whichever emirate you're in.
If you host a holiday let and need fresh linen after every stay, the Airbnb laundry service is built for changeovers. This tab suits a household clear-out of the beds and bathrooms.
Bedding pickup across the seven emirates
Every one of the seven emirates is on our drivers' list, and neither the pickup nor the drop-off is charged.
- Apartment towers: pass the bags over at your own door, or leave them downstairs at security if your tower has a desk that takes them.
- Villas: the driver calls at your front door. Gated community? Get the pass sorted before the agreed time.
- Further north and east: in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, collections follow a weekly timetable, and we'll tell you which day the driver comes your way.
Prices don't change between emirates. A duvet from Ras Al Khaimah costs what one from Abu Dhabi does. Not sure we reach your street? Send the pin first.

Why choose LPlaundry for laundry in the UAE
UAE laundry never really stops
In this heat the washing piles up all year round, with sweaty kit, white kanduras and bedding that still has to dry. Tap any item below to see how we handle it, which service it goes in and the price.
-
Looked over first
Each item is checked by hand for stains and weak spots before it goes near a machine.
-
Gentle detergents
Biodegradable and hypoallergenic, so they're easy on sensitive skin and on fabric.
-
Traditional wear
Abayas, kanduras, jalabiyas and kurtas are part of every week's work, not a special request.
-
Gentle on the dryer
Heat is what shrinks cotton and slackens elastane, so drying stays low and thick seams are felt before folding.
-
Never mixed with anyone else's
Your washing goes into a dedicated machine. Another household's clothes never share the drum with it, guaranteed.
-
Sanitised machines
Every drum is sanitised between cycles, so nothing left from the last wash carries over into yours.

Laundry questions from across the UAE
What does a laundry service in the UAE include?
Pickup, washing, drying, folding and delivery, with pressing in Clean & Press. You book on WhatsApp at any hour, with no app and no subscription unless you want one, and a driver collects from your door at no charge. Wash & Fold comes back washed, dried and folded flat in a bag, with soft fold lines, never pressed.
- Free pickup and delivery in all seven emirates; Wash & Fold is priced by the bag
- Clean & Press is priced per garment: cleaned to its care label, steam pressed by hand, back on a hanger
- Clothes already washed at home? Our pressing service steams them without another wash
How do I book a laundry pickup on WhatsApp, and can it be weekly?
Send a location pin and a pickup time, and we confirm the slot. Write it as you'd text a friend: "two bags of washing and five work shirts, after 6 tonight". Mention any stain or fragile piece in the same message so it goes on the order. That chat later tells you the driver's on the way.
- No app and no account
- Weekly: a monthly plan collects on the same fixed day, so you never rebook; ask in the chat to start
- Essential takes one bag a week, Family two, and a plan bag works out cheaper than a single one
How long does a laundry service take, and is there same-day express?
24 hours in many areas, or 5 hours with express. That makes it a next-day laundry service, timed from when the driver takes the bag. For same-day laundry, order express before 2 PM and collection, cleaning and delivery fit inside those five hours, but only where your location is covered, so check on WhatsApp first.
- Elsewhere the day is confirmed at booking; Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah run on weekly collection days
- Very delicate Clean & Press pieces can take longer; we tell you the time at pickup
- Put the deadline in the message: a shirt for a 7 PM dinner is a different job to one needed tomorrow morning
Which emirates do you cover, and is there a laundry service near me?
All seven, with free pickup and delivery from your door in every one. Wherever you are in the UAE, we likely reach you, from a tower with a security desk to a villa community with a gate pass. Apartment, villa or hotel apartment, booking works the same. Send your location pin on WhatsApp and we'll confirm before anything is booked.
- Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, plus Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah
- The northern four run on fixed weekly collection days, so ask which day reaches your street
- Prices and free pickup are the same in every emirate
How much do laundry and wash and fold cost in the UAE?
Wash & Fold is a flat price per bag; Clean & Press, per garment. A 6kg bag costs the same full or half empty, and a 12kg bag suits a bigger wash. Prices match in every emirate, with free collection and delivery. The minimum order is AED 50; smaller orders are still collected for a small fee.
- Clean & Press: shirts, kanduras and abayas each have their own line
- For an affordable laundry service every week, a monthly plan cuts the cost of each bag: Essential is four bags a month, Family eight
- Every current figure is in the Wash & Fold tab and on our price page
Wash and fold or clean and press: what's the difference, and what goes in the bag?
Wash and fold comes back folded in a bag; clean and press, on hangers. Underwear, socks and nightwear go in the bag and come back folded and packed with the rest. A mesh bag or zip pouch stops a sock ending up in a sleeve. Lace and underwired bras last longer washed by hand at home, so mention them first.
- Clean and press has a fixed price for each item: stains treated by hand, washables in cool water, dried in filtered air rather than a tumble dryer, steam pressed by hand and checked three times
- For office shirts, suits, trousers, kanduras, abayas and dresses, back in a breathable cover; tell us how you like your crease, and silk or beading goes to dry cleaning
- Free collection in all seven emirates; back in 24 hours in many areas or on a day confirmed at booking, very delicate pieces take longer, 5-hour express before 2 PM where covered
What detergent do you use for laundry?
A commercial-grade detergent that's biodegradable and hypoallergenic. It's built for laundry machines, so it gets through sweat and grime without heavy perfume or a harsh chemical smell. That matters for clothes worn close to the skin in the heat and for baby sleepsuits. If your skin reacts to something specific, tell us in the chat before pickup.
- Commercial-grade cleaning strength
- Biodegradable and hypoallergenic
- No strong chemical scent left on clothes
How do you wash a white kandura and an abaya?
Treat a kandura's collar and cuffs first, then wash it with whites only. Sweat and skin oil build up there, hot water can fix the yellow into the cotton, and one coloured item in the drum greys it. A plain abaya can often take a cool, gentle cycle, inside out in a mesh bag so black crepe isn't rubbed shiny.
- Check the abaya's washtub symbol first: a hand in the tub means hand wash, a cross means keep it out of water
- Beaded, embroidered or silk abayas belong on our dry cleaning page; plain ones are on the Clean & Press list
- Kanduras through Clean & Press are priced per piece, checked by hand, kept away from colours and pressed long down the front
Why do white clothes turn yellow, and what temperature should you wash them at?
Sweat, deodorant and skin oil build up, and heat sets them in. Each wash that doesn't fully lift them leaves more behind, a hot dryer bakes it into the fibre, and too much detergent adds a dull film. With coastal highs above 48°C in July and August, collars and underarms suffer most, so treat marks before washing.
- Follow the washtub dots: one 30°C, two 40°C, three 50°C, four 60°C; cotton whites, bedsheets, towels and white T-shirts often take 40°C or more
- Polyester sportswear, elastane and prints want 30°C, because heat loosens stretch and cracks prints
- In a mixed load the coolest label decides, and keep whites out of a hot dryer
How do you get the smell out of gym clothes?
Wash them soon, inside out, and never leave them damp in a bag. Sweat bacteria settle into polyester and elastane, and a hot car or closed gym bag speeds the smell up. Inside out puts the dirtiest side to the water. Skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and holds odour, and avoid a hot dryer, which sets it.
- Inside out, washed within a day
- No fabric softener on sportswear
- We dry gym kit on low heat, never a hot dryer
