5. It comes back. We message you when the van heads to Motor City. Delivery is free too.

The careful part happens before the machine starts, at the sorting table. Here is what we look at when a bag from Motor City arrives.

• Collar rings: the yellow band on white shirts, which comes from sweat and the heat. Tell us and we treat it first.
• Coffee and tea: on cuffs and the front of kanduras, which we treat while the mark is fresh.
• Oil and food: common after dinner out. A note on the bag with the date helps.
• Sun cream: leaves a yellow patch on pale fabric that can show only after the wash.
• Sandy dust: shaken out before cleaning, so it does not rub into the weave.

In the long summer, sheets and pillowcases pick up sweat and sun cream quickly. A bed sheet is AED 25, a pillowcase is AED 9, a bed pillow is AED 19 and a mattress protector is AED 35.

• Sheets: washed warm enough to refresh them, then folded flat.
• Pillows: dried slowly so they stay fluffy, not damp in the middle.
• Pillowcases: washed with the sheets from the same bed, so they match.
• Mattress covers: washed gently and dried fully before they go back on the bed.
